Year Six Canberra

Canberra 2024
What an amazing excursion!!!! Year Six went on an overnight excursion to Canberra on the 28th and 29th of May. We left at 6.30am in the morning, which meant we had to be at school at 6am and returned a day later at 8pm.
We went to Canberra as part of our History and Geography lessons and to connect our knowledge that we had been learning about in class with a real life place. We visited so many places in Canberra and it was hard to say which place was more liked or more interesting. Some of the places that we visited were- Australian Parliament House, Old Parliament - for the Electoral Commission. We also went to Mt Ainslie, the highest lookout in Canberra as well as The War Memorial, Questacon and the Australian Institute of Sport.
All the places that we visited were unique and offered different experiences for each of us. The War Memorial made us stop, think and reflect on the history of our country and those men and women who served us and gave their lives to defend Australia. When visiting Parliament House and Old Parliament House we saw The Senate and The House of Representatives and learnt about how our country is governed.
and The Australian Institute of Sport offered a more hands-on experience and allowed us to explore science and sport in a fun and engaging way. Some students decided to take a risk and experience the drop attraction at Questacon. You have to hang by your hands and then let go and go down a slide in a vertical drop. We had fun wherever we went and whatever we did!!!
Another experience that was a first for many of us was staying overnight in rooms with our friends. We stayed in the accommodation at Canberra Park. Some of us were worried about the food that we were going to be given. But we didn’t have to worry at all because the food was delicious with plenty to eat.
We had a great time with our teachers and friends. Thank you to all the teachers and staff who came with us to Canberra to make our excursion such a wonderful experience.
Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (Pacer)
Year Six students from our school attended an education
tour of the National Capital on Tuesday 28th May & Wednesday 29th May. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.
The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the National Capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education.
To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government contributed funding of $30 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs.
