From the Year 3 Classroom
Well done to all students who participated in the recent Cross Country. Your efforts and perseverance were fantastic. A shout out to our students who went through to the divisional level, Indi Perks, Annabelle Kennedy, Sophie Dalyrmple, Ned O’Brien and Ollie Boltoc. Congratulations to Ollie, Sophie and Annabelle who will compete at the regional carnival next week..
Year Three certainly does have talent with many of our students performing at Sacred Heart’s Got Talent on Friday. We have some budding singers, dancers, poets, comedians and artists in our mix. Who knows what the future may hold for these budding stars.
Reading- We are continuing our author study on Claire Saxby. We are exploring texts including: Tasmanian Devil, Emu, Dingo, Kookaburra, Great White Shark Koala and Kookaburra.
Writing- Students have completed research on an Australian Animal and will now put this information into a nonfiction narrative. We have read lots of Claire Saxby books for inspiration and choice of great vocabulary words. Students have gathered information on habitat, diet, breeding, dangers and predators. Once they have completed their story they will publish using images and record their narrative on Clips. We are looking forward to seeing and hearing their stories, which we will share in class.
Maths- Our current Maths focus is fractions. We will be focusing on concepts such as partitioning 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, and 1/5 fractions, locating them on a number line, comparing and ordering fractions, and understanding concepts like numerator, denominator etc. We'll be using hands-on activities to help solidify their understanding of fractions.
Congratulations to Levi for passing all his Timetables
RE- In Religious Education our Source of Life unit of work is ‘Circle of Life’,. This unit is centred around grief and loss. We are aware this may be a sensitive topic for some students. The teachers will be there to offer emotional support and care should the need arise. If parents have any concerns regarding this topic please contact your child’s teacher,
Inquiry- Last week we conducted experiments into how heat travels. We had 3 spoons, plastic, wooden and metal, each with a small piece of butter on the tip, upended in a mug of hot water. From our observations, we saw that metal was the best conductor of heat.
You can recreate the experiment at home by watching the link below

REMINDERS:
- Once again we ask for reading diaries on Friday. Could parents and guardians please remind students to bring them to school each Friday?
