From the Year 1 Classroom

What a super couple of weeks of learning we have had in Grade 1!

In Literacy, we have started a new unit looking at reading and writing creatively and imaginatively. We have been using wordless books to inspire us with our ideas, which the children have loved. There were lots of giggles with the story 'Where's Walrus'. The children continue to amaze us with their imaginations and ideas. Watch this space as we become authors for these wordless books over the coming weeks.

In Maths, we have had lots of fun exploring and learning about 2D and 3D shapes. We have talked about the properties of these shapes and the children have enjoyed many hands-on activities finding these shapes in our world.

In Religion, we have continued learning about the Pentecost and talked about the images of fire and wind in this story. On Friday, we had a lovely Mass to celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart. Wow, what talented students we have! We loved being a part of the audience for 'Sacred Heart Has Got Talent’ and being entertained by the amazing students at our school.

In Inquiry, we have been learning about Light and Sound. We have learnt about vibrations and how they move through our ears to produce sound. I'm sure parents have seen the old cup and string experiment before.

We can’t believe that we are nearly halfway through Grade 1. Time flies when you are having fun! As we approach this halfway point of the school year, we are encouraging the children to enter the school buildings on their own in the mornings to build independence and resilience. We know they can do it!

Every day we reflect on how lucky we are to teach the awesome children in Grade 1.

Thanks for all your support.
