Dear Members of the Academy Community

The term is racing away!  Initially there were sighs that this term was a term of eleven weeks but it has galloped away.  One of the reasons for this, of course, is that it has been such a busy term, a term where we have acknowledged and celebrated our students in so many ways.

The  past week has been a wonderful week of Dance, Drama and Music.  We have received many accolades praising the Academy Production of “Chicago: High School Edition”.   There are so many talented students at the Academy, and it was wonderful to see them in action.  Many thanks to all involved in the musical, and especially to Ms Olivia Hamilton, Ms Alison Hocking and Ms Mirelle Morris.

I also thank the many parents who assisted, especially Mrs Nancy Cover and Mrs Kerry Stevenson, who were involved in costume design, props and refreshments, aided with the latter by many members of the parent body.  I thank, too, the staff who supported the event by ushering and being back of house.

Discussions are already in process for next year’s Musical… watch this space!

Likewise Academy has distinguished itself in the sporting area  – a couple of weeks ago we won the CGSAV (Catholic Girls Schools Sporting Association) Athletics Carnival  - the first time in our history, followed by a win in the CGSAV Cross Country.  We look forward to more successes in this area.

Our Senior Student Leadership Team and our Justice Group have also been working hard raising awareness of a number of Justice Issues.  To celebrate the diversity within our strong and united College, the Student Leadership Team is busy organising a Cultural Day on 21 June.

This will be followed by a Perform for Peace concert on 18 July.  All donations will go to Caritas who will channel  the funds into war torn areas of the world.  It has been humbling listening to our Student Leadership Team plan this event - they have organised every aspect of this gathering, including the guest speaker, the donations and the actual concert itself.  They have  also contacted Caritas who will be sending representatives to the concert.   We are so proud of our leaders.  Thank you to the many parents who have provided us with goods, vouchers and other items to be raffled on the night.

And finally, there is an exciting event coming up.  A few weeks ago, the students were invited to rename the Undercroft area of the school, given that it has been totally upgraded with new furniture – tables, chairs, benches of various sizes etc.

I have received over 60 suggestions for a new name for this  area and the successful entry will be announced at the end of term College Assembly.  These suggestions from staff and students were very thoughtful, and all included meaningful reasons for their choice of name.

The warmth and depth of the Academy spirit continues to both strengthen and nurture us and blows away any winter blues.

With thanks for your ongoing support and every Blessing.

Comfort and restore

those living under shadows of unhappiness, pain or fear.  May we find faith in You knowing Your amazing grace in our lives.

Please pour out Your blessings
