Team Spirit is Our Competitive Edge
Wednesday, 22 May saw the Academy of Mary Immaculate represented by students in Years 7 – 12 at the Division 2, CGSAV Athletics Carnival at the Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park.
The competing students earned selection in the team from their performances two weeks prior at the House Athletics Carnival on Wednesday, 8 May at the George Knott Reserve, Clifton Hill. Once the team was selected, the students were invited to two training sessions on Wednesday, 15 May and Monday, 20 May at George Knott Reserve, with specialist coaches from the Collinwood Athletics Club to prepare for the event.
The weather conditions on the day of the event were almost perfect and the carnival was a fantastic success - the Academy team finished the day as the Aggregate Overall Champions. Please find the results tables below:
The overall result was due to an even contribution from all students. A special congratulations should be given to our intermediate students in Years 9 and 10, who finished in aggregate for their division. The Division 2 success means that our team will compete in Division 1 next year, which is an exciting challenge for the group. The success also marked the Academy’s maiden aggregate trophy at CGSAV Athletics (formerly SCSA).

Thursday, 30 May – Yarra Bend Park
Thursday 30 May saw the Academy represented by students in Years 7 – 12 at Division 2 CGSAV Cross Country at Yarra Bend Park. The weather conditions were overcast and there was a consistent threat of rain throughout the event. Our students were primed for the 3km race due to the Athletics and Running schedule in place in the weeks prior to the event. The competing students had raced at the Academy House Athletics Carnival, Athletics Training at George Knott Reserve, CGSAV Athletics and the Cross Country Race at the Worawa Reconciliation Sports Carnival in the month prior to event, leaving our team race hardened. Continuing our strong form, the Academy finished the event as the overall aggregate winners - please find the results tables below:
We congratulate all runners on their contribution to winning the Division 2 event. The Division 2 success will result in a promotion to Division 1 in 2025, which is again, an exciting challenge for the group.
