Acting Principal's Report

My Time Here

When I was in year 10 (St. James College 1983) I completed one of those ‘what will you be when you grow up’ surveys.  Much like the Morrisby reports that High School Students complete in year 9, my survey was designed to link my talents and interests to a career.

The survey, in all of its wisdom, indicated that I would make a really good customs officer.  It took 2 more years of high school, 5 years of university, 34 years of high school teaching and 9 weeks at this beautiful primary school to finally fulfill that potential.

I was honoured to be one of the passport controllers for the Year 2 students as they finished their unit of study, packed their suitcases and tried to immigrate to Australia.  They did an amazing job.  They were so involved and committed to the learning.  When you have great teachers, with creative minds and a determination to be different, learning can be so much fun – well done Year 2!

The experienced in many ways summed up my time here at BNPS.  I was captivated by the unbridled curiosity of the Year 3’s & 4’s; bedazzled by the preps as they studied their sentence of the week: ‘We can do up our zip’; listened in awe as the Year 5 presented their natural disaster projects; and I enjoyed the company of our Year 6 students who are looking pretty ready for their upcoming high school adventure.

I appreciate being welcomed into so many classrooms throughout the term.  It great to see such a variety of learning environments with so many happy students. My thanks go to the grade 6 leaders.  You are a special group.  You were so welcoming. You made me feel right at home and I really did appreciate it.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank the staff and students at BNPS for welcoming me to the school. I was particularly grateful for the support of the amazing ladies working in our office.

Could I also thank the kind parents within the school council and the Parents & Friends.  You do an incredible amount of work for BNPS, much of it going unseen.

Finally, I could not have functioned here without Angus Ross and Tania Maxwell.  They simply knew things that I hadn’t even thought of – this happened a fair bit early on, but I think got better as the weeks went by.  I remain very grateful for their patience and their enduring expertise.

I wish the entire community all the best for the semester and the years to come.

Look after each other.

David

Cha Cha Slide

Please enjoy watching the whole school perform the Cha Cha Slide at Assembly on Monday 17 June.

The year 1 students had just arrived back from their excursion to Puffing Billy so were actually dancing to the music in their classrooms as they didn’t make it out on time for the flash mob dance.
