Dear Sacred Heart Families & Friends,
What a term it has been with many examples of our Living Vision evident in so many ways!
Our Sacred Heart Living Vision represents what our Vision looks like, sounds like and feels like each and every day at Sacred Heart. The educators & children reflect constantly on the true spirit of Sacred Heart as a Catholic faith community and how we are enacting this with one another each day. We label specific examples of each one to ensure that our Vision is truly alive and reflective of living our lives in the example of Jesus Christ.
Our Sacred Heart Feast Day celebrations reflected the concepts of "History, Belonging, Relationships and Community". During the day, our students enjoyed the opportunity to connect through Tabloid Sports, enjoying hot chocolates together and exploring ways in which they can spread the love of Jesus in their everyday life. Friday night was a joyous celebration that brought our Parish and School together in faith and love, honouring the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It was a treasured evening of belonging and community and new traditions.
The Learning Showcases being held over the past few weeks are also a wonderful example of how our school and parent community work together in Partnership to achieve the best possible learning outcomes for our students. The children have been proudly sharing their new found knowledge & creations with their families, articulating what they know and how they have worked towards achieving their results. Opportunities to do this through the Learning Showcases & Learning Conferences are an important part of how partnerships between home and school are achieved.
By now, most of you will be aware that Archbishop Peter Comensoli has appointed Fr. Binh as the new Parish Priest of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Laverton, Altona Meadows and Point Cook, effective 10 July 2024. Sadly, this means for us that we will be losing a wonderful parish priest and friend to all at Sacred Heart.
I know our school community would join me in taking this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude for the profound impact he has had on our school and parish community. His dedication, spiritual guidance and unwavering support have been a source of inspiration to us all. We are especially grateful for the personal connections he has made with our students. Fr Binh's ministry in class masses, visits to the classrooms, participation in school events and willingness to listen and engage with everyone has left an indelible mark on our community.
The parish will be holding a farewell morning tea after mass on Sunday, 7th July for Fr Binh. More details are available in the "News from the Office" section of our newsletter. With the school holidays coming up and in consultation with Fr Binh, Sacred Heart School will be farewelling Fr Binh with a school mass on Wednesday, 31st July and a special morning planned, including a morning tea. We hope as many people as possible will be able to join us. More details will be coming early next term.
Fr Binh will always be a cherished part of the Sacred Heart family and his legacy will continue to inspire us.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
I remain yours in faith and gratitude,
Kaylene Carlin
SCHOOL PRINCIPAL
We have an updated Mobile Phone policy for Students & Parents/Carers whilst onsite at Sacred Heart school.
Student mobile phones are to be handed to the class teacher at the beginning of the day and sent to the office for safe-keeping until they are returned to the students at the end of the school day
We appreciate your support and cooperation in this matter.
Every four years, Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Melbourne undertake a model of review. The School Review is used to support deep learning and ongoing monitoring of improvement throughout the four-year continuous improvement process within the School Improvement Framework. This year, Sacred Heart in engaging in this process.
School Review supports schools and the wider system to foster improvement in an ongoing and continuous way, as well as ensuring schools continue to meet external legislative and regulatory requirements. School Review has two main dimensions – improvement and compliance.
Improvement
Through self-assessment and reflection and evidence collection, schools consider their school improvement through the four-year CIP. This supports the development and implementation of a new four-year School Improvement Plan.
Compliance
Through verification of the minimum standards and other requirements for registration, Child Safe Standards and other State and Commonwealth requirements for Victorian Catholic schools, both schools and MACS are ensuring that external legislative and regulatory requirements are being met.
On Monday, 15th July, there will be a Pupil Free Day for the Sacred Heart staff to continue to work through the review process, documenting evidence and preparing for the formal review days later in the year.
A reminder to our school community to please ensure our children stay safe and well, especially at drop off and pick up times, by complying with parking regulations around the school. The area immediately outside the school is a drop off zone between 8am - 9.30am and 2.30pm - 4.00pm on school days. Drop-off and pick-up zones allow you to quickly set down and pick up your children, creating a safe environment while keep traffic moving.
We thank you for your cooperation in maintaining student safety at Sacred Heart.
