Transition and Enrolments team:
It’s been a busy term for our transition team at the College as we successfully hosted the Year 6 Experience Day for all our feeder primary schools. This was a follow up event from last year where we hosted the Year 5 Experience Day back in 2023.
On the experience day, the year six students experienced a Maths, Drama, and PE class and a class lead by current Specialist Program students where they spoke about the four Specialist Programs and answered any questions the year six students had about secondary school in general.
These experience days provide an insight for our primary school students about how things are different at secondary school and hopefully squash some or any of the concerns they may have about secondary schools.
Over the coming term we look forward to welcoming our new families for 2025 year 7, this is a busy time as a college. We use this time to really ensure that we know the most about our students coming over from all primary schools by meeting with the current year six teams, collecting data and holding a ‘Meet-The-Principal’ evening in late term four where families can touch base with our Principal team, Home group teachers, Wellbeing team and Inclusive Education team.
“…The transition from Year 6 (primary school) to Year 7 (secondary school)
is a significant change for students. Some key aspects of this transition:
- Curriculum Changes
- New Environment
- Peer Relationships
- Interaction with Older Students
- Increased Independence
- Anxiety and Excitement
The transition from Year 6 to Year 7 is a crucial period that can shape a
student's future educational experience. With proper support and preparation,
students can navigate this change successfully and make the most of their new
opportunities…” (Source: www.education.vic.gov.au)
