Music Update

Interesting music fact:  A common argument against daily music education is that it takes time away from teaching fundamentals such as reading and math. But evidence shows that music training actually improves children's reading and math skills, suggesting that it can pay dividends in more traditional academic domains. It's important to remember that a school's core mission is to promote child development—and music education does just that (Nina Kraus 2018)

MUSIC DAY CAMP

Music Camp was such an incredible experience!

On Day 1 we started off by playing a game of human bingo, the only rule was that you can’t have the same person multiple times on your sheet. This was a great way to talk to people that you usually wouldn’t and also find people who may have the same interests as you. Once we finished bingo, we then went into our ensembles and practiced and refined our songs to be performance ready for the big couple days ahead. After having around 4 practice sessions with our ensembles, we all joined in the auditorium to play some trivia! Some of the questions about the teachers were DIFFICULT to say the least! Who knew Mr Chiodo’s favourite food was ice-cream?! The trivia was a really good opportunity for all of us to meet new people.

Day 2 came around and the excitement was electric! Today we went to the Frankston RSL to perform for family and friends. This was a great opening for us as students to learn to perform in front of people we know and the added distraction of family being in the crowd. We all performed incredibly well! Overall the perfect way to start Music Camp.

Day 3 rolled around and today we performed in front of Woodlands Primary School. There was SOOO many kids there, so the nerves were high! After doing a fun Round Around My Baby physical and vocal warmup, it was SHOWTIME! Woodlands was such an incredible audience to have! Although we faced some challenges as musicians with the students clapping at different times, we overcame those and absolutely nailed the performance. It was really awesome to see all the kids faces light up when they say the instruments they were learning about in class in real life! After we finished at Woodlands Primary School we went straight to Ballam Park to have a BBQ lunch and some fruit. The sausage were TO DIE FOR (mind you I helped cook). Then we all got a chance to be little kids and play on the playground until it was time to head back to school.

I would HIGHLY recommend Music Camp again because it was a beautiful and engaging experience to meet so many new faces and also to get opened up to the performing industry by playing in front of big audiences.
