Geography Week

During Week 6 of this term, Endeavour celebrated Geography Week. The theme of the week was “Geography is where it’s at – literally!”

In the lead-up to the week our Environmental and Sustainability Leader, Heidi Paton, launched an Ecofriendly Building Competition for Middle Years students, who were tasked with designing or altering an aspect of the College to make it more sustainable.

The winning entries for this competition were:

1st Prize: Emma Walton

(who designed an aquaponics system for the College: snapshot below)

2nd Prize: Joshua Mann, Ethan Grantham, and Patrick Jacobs

(who suggested a composting system for the College)

3rd Prize: Owen Meinel, Charlie Perryman, and Ahyan Dewan

(who designed a more sustainable basketball area with additional bins and trees)

During Geography Week there were a variety of activities for students to be involved in, including a Geography related song of the day, Geography quizzes, a display of Geography focused books in the Discovery Centre as well as VR activities. A highlight for Senior Students was a Geoguesser Competition each lunchtime.

On Friday, Heidi and other Year 12 Geography students, ran a whole school assembly which focused on Geography at Endeavour with an explanation of fieldwork activities and possible future career opportunities, while also challenging staff and student on their Geographical and sustainability knowledge.

A final message from Heidi:

“Take a moment out of your day today to recognise the wonderful environment we live in!”

Relay For Change

We are excited that the inaugural Relay For Change will be held on Friday 5 July.

What's this?

Eleven teams from the Year 12 Christian Living classes, will participate and compete in a minimum of 6 challenges, in addition to a non-stop relay baton event. The aim is to raise much-needed funds for ALWS to help children in East Africa step into education.

Sadly, thousands of children arrive in refugee camps in East Africa every year, fleeing conflict and disaster. Our Year 12s have chosen to help by supporting them to access education while they’re in the refugee camps. Education is a powerful way to change the future for refugee children and it is a gift that cannot be taken away.

Our school community has been busy preparing for this event, which is just 14 days away!

Here are some preparation highlights:

A big thank you to all those who have jumped online and donated to our wonderful Year 12 groups. Your contributions are appreciated.

To say thank you, we invite you to join us on the morning of the event to celebrate the hard work of our students. We will announce the winning team and conclude the event with a fundraising sausage sizzle starting at 11:30am. A perfect way to kick off the school holidays.

We also want to congratulate all Year 12 students for their dedication and efforts in raising awareness and funds to help refugee children in East Africa have the opportunity to step into education. Your hard work is making a difference. Through your collective efforts so far, you have raised enough money to send 100 children to school for an entire year. Let’s keep up the momentum and continue making a positive impact.

If you have not had chance to donate yet, do not worry, you still have time.

“Many hands make light work".

God has placed us all in a position to accomplish great things together.

We are looking forward to seeing you all on the 5th of July.

XR Technologies Updates:

LAB Champions: Upskilling and New Exciting Projects

Our dedicated Lab Champions have recently completed exciting professional development workshops focusing on content creation and the innovative world of extended reality (XR). The training included hands-on sessions with 360 cameras, opening up a whole new dimension of creative possibilities for our school community.

The Lab Champions are eager to share their newfound knowledge and expertise, supporting staff members in their projects and answering any questions they may have about these cutting-edge technologies.

360° School Tour in the Making

In our Year 7 Digital Technology class, students have already begun experimenting with the 360 cameras, embarking on a project to create an immersive virtual tour of our school.

This innovative project promises to offer a unique perspective for prospective students and families.

Coding and Storytelling in 3D

Other groups of Year 7 students are diving into the world of coding and storytelling, using CoSpaces to design and animate characters in a 3D environment. These budding creators are learning valuable skills while having fun and expressing their creativity.

Year 10 Food Technology:

Food Truck Project

The Year 10 Food Technology students (three classes) recently embarked on an exciting Food Truck Project, where they had the opportunity to showcase their culinary talents. Each student was tasked with creating a unique dish and presenting it to two staff members of their choice, transforming the Food Technology kitchens into a vibrant food festival with many happy customers.

From savoury tacos and loaded potatoes to delicate cold rolls and delectable baked German goods, the students' creations were as diverse as they were delicious.

This hands-on project allowed the students to step out of the traditional classroom setting and apply their skills in a real-world context, gaining valuable lessons along the way.

The highlight of the project was the chance for students to share their passion for cooking with staff members they valued, adding a personal touch to the experience. The joy and pride on the students' faces was evident as they received feedback and encouragement from their chosen guests.

Overall, the Food Truck Project was a tremendous success, providing our Year 10 students with an unforgettable learning experience and an opportunity to shine.

UniSA Law Talks

Throughout Term 3, we have had the pleasure of welcoming Dr Sarah Moulds to the College to deliver a three part series on Law and the Legal System as part of our Enrichment Program. Dr Sarah presented to interested students from Years 8 to 12 on issues involving enforcing the law in life and death situations, how sentences are decided, key theories behind legal and ethical thinking and the complex relationship between the two. She also delved into how students can begin to build their advocacy and legal skills in the real world before finishing school.

This experience was an incredible opportunity to grow awareness of how our legal system is structured, how people can get involved, and the complex thinking behind making decisions on legal matters.

Students were wonderful representatives of our College, and Dr Sarah expressed her eagerness to hear from students in the future.

Thank you to UniSA for working with us and for the students for embracing this opportunity to dive deeper into the world of law.

Year 10 Business Expos

The Year 10 Business and Economics students hosted Endeavour's very first Business Expos on the Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

In the weeks prior to the event, students planned and developed business ideas that solved relevant problems in the community. They were encouraged to prototype their solutions alongside written explanations.

The students set up stalls to showcase their creative business ideas, and also pitched to teams of judges who came to visit their stalls to provide them with feedback.

The judges comprised of Year 12 students, teachers and even some guest entrepreneurs from the local Mawson Lakes community.

Below are comments from the students:

Frances Whittle:

The Business Expo was a really good experience, and we received lots of interesting feedback! I made a prototype dress to show what my products would be like, which a lot of people liked. There were a few people who asked questions that I hadn't really considered when I was planning my business, like what dyes I would use to make my products.

Paige Emery

The Business Expo was a wonderful experience, as it allowed me to understand the multiple moving parts of what a business is and what it entails. I got amazing feedback from both Year 12 students and judges, which only allowed me to want to grow the business I had created even further. Prior to this assignment, I wasn't aware of how much of a process creating a business would be - I suppose that's why there aren't successful businesses everywhere we look. It was an amazing experience.

Gabriella Kies:

I enjoyed the Business Expo, as it gave me the opportunity to unleash my creativity and to bring it to life through creating my own business. I also enjoyed being able to work in the Innovation zone to assist me in creating my prototypes. For example, my necklace pendants. This gave me the opportunity to develop new skills that will assist me in future years. In addition to this, this assignment also helped me develop a solution to a problem that I was genuinely passionate about.

Diya Patel:

At the end the unit we were given the chance to create our own stall. Many of us were working in groups which allowed us to use our collaboration skills to design a stall for our business. This gave us the opportunity to use our ideas as a collective. My highlight for this experience was designing our business as a group and getting feedback from Ms DeLacy's Year 12 Business Innovation class,

Mr Wooldridge and Ms Falero. This allowed us to gain understanding on ways we could improve.

Well done to the Year 10s for their dedication and commitment to making the event a success!
