Year 7and 8 Footballers
Last week the year 7 and 8s played netball at Ngarrindjeri Stadium where the Year 8 B team was undefeated during the tournament. Abigail scored 10 goals in her last game, and the opponents couldn’t get past Cleo’s defence. The girls' A team smashed their first 3 games, but lost to Thornbury in the last game, meaning they will not be going to regionals. Everyone had lots of fun and overall, it was a great day, whether they play netball or not.
Thank you to Mr Wilkins, all the other staff supervising, and the volunteer coaches making it such an easy day
Mieka Locantro,
Our Year 7/8 Boys/mixed teams also had some competitive matches throughout the day against Thornbury, William Ruthven and Preston. Well done to both of our teams. Overall winner on the day was Preston.
A big thank you to Meika, Sasha Rofe, Lily Dridan and Emma Curtis for coaching our Year 7 and 8 Netball teams.
On Wednesday the year 7/8 girls went to Reservoir for school footy. They played 3 games with the first game of the morning against Preston, second game against Lalor, and finished with the third and final game against Thornbury. They did amazing in all three games and came out on top, allowing them to advance to regionals. Throughout the day the girls really came together and showed some great sportsmanship and teamwork. Some stand outs for the day were Luci and Tilly with their great goals, Lexi with fantastic clearances and Stella with amazing defense through all three games. All in all, an amazing effort by all the girls!

The boys had a great day out at year 8 footy. It was an extremely cold day to be playing football but the boys persisted across the three games they played. In our first game against Thornbury, our midfield contest was a highlight leading the way to a comfortable win. The defence held strong for this game, not conceding a point. In our next game against Lalor , once again our defence held strong not conceding a point. In our final game against Preston, the decider to go through to the next round, the boys were pushed to the limits. In a close game, with many back and fourth moments, Northcote ultimately won by 4 points. It was a great day out filled with on field success as well as everyone enjoying themselves. The boys now progress to the Regionals on July 30.
On Thursday last week, our Year 8 Girls and Boys Badminton teams headed off to Reservoir High to compete in the divisional tournament. The Girls A team started off with an overall win against Lalor, only losing one match out of the 6 that we played. Our second match was against Reservoir High. It was a tough match with some of their players training consistently outside of school. We fought hard but unfortunately just fell short of making it into the finals. The Girls B team had a rough start with most of their players not having much experience playing Badminton. By the end of their last match, they had improved so much. Both the Girls A and B teams were highly competitive but also had time to socialise with other schools to make new friends and meet up with old ones too. Overall, we all had lots of fun playing badminton.
The Boys A and B teams had many tough matches against schools such as Reservoir and Preston High. The Boys A team played against Reservoir, which had many players with badminton experience. Our A team was very competitive and had strong defensive games but got knocked out in the last round. The Boys B teams had many matches including some friendlies amongst the other schools. They made sure to work together as a team and cheer each other on.
By the end of the day none of our teams made it into the finals. We were all a bit disappointed but had learned so much from our day. We had all improved our badminton skills, scoring, playing individually and in pairs, and socialising with other schools. We all waited until 1:30 before leaving the tournament so we didn’t have to go to class when we got back. Thank you, Kurt, for being an amazing and supportive badminton coach. It is clear that we have a talented team for the years to come and can’t wait to compete next year!
