CHAIR REPORT

Term 2 SAC Meeting - Tuesday 4th June

We are nearing the end of term 2 and potentially by the time you read this we will be flying off to Europe to reconnect with relatives and enjoy the 2024 Olympic games.

At our last SAC meeting just over 2 weeks ago we had the privilege of seeing the plans and understanding the timelines of the next extension to increase classroom space and improvement to make flow through the corridors more efficient and more accessible for all. The plans look great, however access for the works that need to be carried out will be through the preps playground, so the redevelopment of the playground will be delayed. A big positive is that the developer will clear the space for their access, potentially leaving more funds available for more new play equipment.

In term 1 Naplan was conducted for grade 3 and 5 students. Unfortunately, the results for this have not been released just yet. As per my last report, once the results are provided to St Michaels we will provide an information session to explain the scores and how the results may potentially be used to improve the curriculum for students in future years. This will most likely be in early to middle part of term 3.

Last Wednesday I had the privilege to be invited to the inaugural MACS (Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools) School Advisory Council Chairs dinner. The night enabled chairs from all over Melbourne to come together and tell their stories. The night was a great success with some great presenters. Knowledge from other schools' experiences with fundraising and projects for improvements to buildings along with how other communities operate was shared. This information is a valuable tool to help ensure the best education for children across Melbourne is achieved. And from what I could gauge of the information shared we are in good hands at St Michaels.

Finally I would just like to thank all the St Michaels staff and parents that have been helping to support fundraisers and other activities within the school. The term has delivered some great events and services with more to come.

As I sign off, I hope the last few weeks of term are full of great learning and fun activities.
