Student Leadership Report

Written by our Student Leaders

Dear Saltwater Community,

In the last fortnight, our student leaders have been actively engaged in our Junior School Council and holding discussions with their respective year-level assistant principals.

Junior School Council

We are delighted to introduce the Junior School Council representatives for each year level.

The Junior School Council serves as a platform for students to have a voice and take on leadership roles within our school community. They represent the interests and concerns of the students, providing them with an opportunity to contribute ideas, suggestions, and feedback on various aspects of school life. Throughout the year, they will organise events, initiatives, and projects aimed at enhancing the school environment, fostering a sense of belonging, and addressing issues within our school.

Last week we had our first JSC meeting. It was pleasing to be a part of it, and we all got a lot of information about our school. One thing I learnt was the Saltwater mission statement and how it is to develop critical, creative thinkers who are connected, global citizens. We spoke about our school vision, which is to educate students to thrive in an ever-changing world and had to think about how we can lead our students to achieve the vision.  We learnt that it’s not just up to the teachers to make change at our school, it’s up to us as leaders and all the students at our school.

As JSC, our first two actions were to give our students a voice by creating a communication box within our classes. In my class, I created a box, and sticky notes for the students in my class to write any problems they need solved or any ideas to share.  The second was to create an All ‘About Me’ page for any CRTs who will come into our class if any teachers are away. The purpose of this is to let the CRT know anything I can help them with as Class Captain.

As a JSC, I am excited to be a part of any fundraising because I want to raise money for the school to buy new equipment for the students.

Year Level Meetings

Class Captains and Assistant Principals

In our meeting with Mr Vivoda, we spoke about how we can make our school better. We spoke about how we can care for other people and show good examples. Like if someone needs help or they are hurt.

After that, we had to make an all about me poster because I am a Class Captain, and we had to share who we are and what we like and our classroom.  We also talked about making a box for our class to share their ideas, and then we will bring it to the JSC.

I liked this meeting with Mr Vivoda, as we got to share how our week was and we got to talk about being kind and good behaviour.

Melbourne Legacy's 92nd ANZAC Commemoration for Students

On Friday the 19th of April, I had the privilege to attend the Melbourne Legacy's 92nd ANZAC Commemoration for Students at the Shrine of Remembrance with schools attending from across Victoria.

During the Commemoration, we paid our respects to the soldiers of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps who fought in and lost their lives during World War 1. I was privileged to lay a wreath at the base of the eternal flame on behalf of Saltwater College and take part in this significant event with other student leaders.

It was a humbling experience to attend this important event and to join other students in remembering Australians and New Zealanders who sacrificed their lives on the battlefield.

Lest We Forget
