Year Seven

English

Our Year Seven students have had a great start to Term Two. In English, students have begun to explore the Statement of Inquiry: "Authors can use contextual, scientific, and technical research to convey information that effectively communicates across different genres." They found the unit's provocation particularly engaging, which involved watching the Netflix "Explained" episode about the World's Water Crisis. This provocation sparked their curiosity about journalism and prompted reflections on the real-world crisis of water scarcity.

This week, the Year Seven students will delve into the intricacies of both traditional and digital journalism. Through structured discussions and activities, they will dissect the fundamental principles that underpin quality journalism, such as accuracy, credibility, and audience engagement. This will provide them a foundation for their own information reports, where they will become journalists themselves. We look forward to an exciting term in English.

Physical Education

We have had a great few weeks in Y7 PE with students completing their assessments showcasing all their work on nutrition and health. Students have been able to develop their understanding of balanced diet and how this can be manipulated to support different athletes.

In addition to this, students have explored food sustainability and how the way we eat can have direct impact on the planet. Students have explored local farms and food produce systems and looked critically at their own food habits and how changes can be made to better the planet.

Students were given lots of freedom and creative control when completing their assessment tasks and we are incredibly impressed with the work they have submitted.

Science

In term two, Year 7 students will dive into the captivating world of Chemistry, beginning their journey with a fundamental understanding of pure substances and mixtures. Throughout the term, students will embark on the

series of experiments and activities aimed at unravelling the mysteries of chemistry.

This term, students will hone their scientific skills as they learn and master various separation techniques. From the delicate process of crystallisation

to the precision of chromatography, students will explore methods such as evaporation, magnetic separation, decanting and centrifugation along with

their applications in the real world.

In week 1, students kicked off their exploration with an experiment in the science lab. Using a Bunsen burner, they measured the

Temperature of water and meticulously plotted temperature versus time graph, laying the foundation for their scientific inquiry.

Stay tuned for an enriching and exhilarating term ahead in Chemistry for year 7 cohort!

Spanish

¡Bienvenido de nuevo!

I hope that everyone enjoyed a restful and delightful holiday break.

This term, Year 7 students are delving further into Unit 1: Todo Sobre Mi (All About Me). Our initial lesson focused on colours, pets, and the introduction of the concept of verb conjugation in Spanish. The first verb introduced was ‘tener,’ which translates as ‘to have’ in English. Students utilised this verb to share their age and can now use it to talk about their pets as well.

In the upcoming weeks, we will explore noun/adjective agreement and word order. In Spanish, nouns are classified as either masculine or feminine, which requires adjectives to be adjusted to match the gender and number of the noun they describe.

This concept may seem a bit tricky at first, but with practice, students will soon get the hang of it.

Remember, learning a new language is like unlocking a door to a whole new world of possibilities and opportunities! Embrace the challenge and enjoy the journey of discovering the beauty of Spanish language and culture. Stay curious, stay enthusiastic, and most importantly, have fun while learning!

¡Buena suerte! (Good luck!) 🌟📚🇪🇸
