Year Three

Dear Year Three Families,

The Year Three students have had a great start to the term. Students have been applying their thinking and communication skills in all areas of learning.

Reading:

In Reading, students have been learning how to make connections with the text they read. Making connections is a reading strategy that involves linking what is being read (the text) to what is already known (background knowledge). Students have had the opportunity to read a variety of texts this week and make different connections. Some of the connections students have made include;

  • Text to Text
  • Text to Self
  • Text to World

Writing:

In Writing, students have continued learning about different forms of poetry. This week, students have revised the structure of a haiku and limerick poem. Students have also learnt about the structure of a cinquain poem.

A cinquain poem follows the structure below.

Mathematics:

In Mathematics, students have started learning about the place value of numbers. Students have been exploring how to make, write and record three, four and five-digit numbers. Students have also been engaging with the Launch, Explore, Discuss model to continue to explore the concept of place value and demonstrate their problem solving skills in Maths. Please find attached some work samples from students in Year Three based on their learning in Mathematics.

Inquiry:

In Inquiry, students have continued to learn about patterns and colours in nature. This week, students began to explore the sciencebehind colours so they could make authentic connections to real life. Students had the opportunity to pick five different landscapes. For example; beach, forest, countryside, lakes, mountains, waterfalls. Students then created the pallet associated with those natural landscapes they chose. Please find attached some work samples from students in Year Three based on their learning in Inquiry.

Learner Attribute focus for the fortnight:

The learner attribute for this fortnight is 'Caring'. Caring learners show empathy, compassion and respect towards the needs and feelings of others.

Ways to show that you are caring towards others includes:

  • Being inclusive of all students in games on the playground.
  • Inviting new students to play with your group.
  • Picking up rubbish on the playground or in the local community.
  • Respecting how others might be feeling if they are sad.
  • Showing respect to students inside and outside of the classrooms by using kind words.

Cyber Safety Session:

Students in Year Three had the opportunity to participate in a one hour Cyber Safety Incursion. The purpose of this session was to provide students with the knowledge and skills they need to stay safe whilst using their devices in an online environment.

Reminders:

  • Staying hydrated is crucial. Bring a full water bottle to school every day to keep yourself refreshed and focused throughout the day.
  • iPads are essential learning devices in our classrooms. Please ensure your iPad is fully charged before coming to school, as you will need it for daily activities.
  • Next payment for camp is due on Monday 22nd April. Parents and Guardians do have the option to pay the remaining amount in full. Please check your Xuno notifications for more information regarding camp payments.

We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to these guidelines, which will contribute to a safe, healthy, and productive learning environment for all.

Best Regards,

Year Three Teaching Team
