Year Two

Dear Year Two Community,

The Year 2's have returned to school in term two with a splash! (Pun intended).

Reading

The students explored various texts for enjoyment, and to help them develop knowledge and connections to our Inquiry unit. They developed and practiced language for sharing text-to-self connections they made to these texts.

Writing

The students commenced the term by developing awareness of key elements of persuasive text. They explored and categorised facts and opinions, and have begun to develop their own opinions and supporting reasons to enable them to persuade an audience. They have also been introduced to paragraphing skills, and strategies for constructing simple persuasive paragraphs based on their opinions and reasons.

Wellbeing

The students discussed and listed unhelpful emotions, and then explored different ways that they could effectively manage those sensations. They shared their own preferred strategies for emotionally regulating their way through challenging realistic situations.

Inquiry

The students engaged in research through texts explored during reading sessions on various body systems. In guided inquiry, they communicated what they thought a healthy lunchbox looked like, and constructed models of the human body, and the positions of various organs and systems within it.

Maths

In mathematics, students have continued to explore ways to represent place value. They have familiarised themselves with the concept of zero holding place value. They practiced representing two and three digit numbers in different ways. They have focused on pictorial representations, and the expanded form.

ICT Incursion

The students attended a cyber safety incursion on Friday. They learned the useful acronym STOP for managing unsafe online encounters. They learned to stay:

Silent,

Tell an adult,

Get Out of the website or game,

Play something else.

Swimming

The students have enjoyed the swimming program, where they have been learning basic swimming and water safety skills.
