Cross Country Training
We have begun our training this week in preparation for our school cross country, which is being held on the first Thursday back after the holidays. In our lessons we have been focusing on circular or box breathing where the students learn to control their breathing while exercising. We have also been working on our pacing, where we aim to maintain a steady pace throughout the run instead of sprinting the whole way. Next week we will be working on our surge training, where we focus on sprinting for a small part of the run before going back to a steady pace to help replicate overtaking another runner.
We encourage students to do some training outside of school to work on their breathing and pacing while running. This helps them to build the confidence and stamina to enjoy the cross country race.
Inter-House Running Challenge
In Week 10 our students will take part in the interhouse running challenge. For this, students will head out for 10 - 15 minutes each and practise running around a mini course setup in the school. Each lap a student does gets added to their house points across the entire school. This provides another opportunity for the students to build up their running ability in preparation for the cross country.
School Swimming Programs
Our Year 4 students did a fantastic job at their water safety program last week. This program educates children on the potential dangers in the local environment and how to keep themselves safe in the aquatic environment. Our Year 6 students completed their program this week and the Year 5 students will complete theirs in Week 10. This is a progressive program where the students build on their knowledge from the year before to continue to build their water safety knowledge and practical skills. Our Prep - Year 3 students will have their swimming program in Term 4.
Sporting Achievements
Well done to Toby and Noah who both competed at the South Coast carnival last week. A massive congratulations to Noah who smashed the carnival with a plethora of 2nd and 3rd places. He has now qualified for the State Titles. Good luck Noah.
Congratulations to Winnie and Milla who were both selected in the Oceanic AFL team earlier this week. Good luck at the State Titles girls.
Congratulations to Joey who was selected in the Oceanic touch football team and will now compete at the South Coast carnival.
Friday Sport
Our Friday sport is going great for our Year 5 - 6 students who have been getting out and playing their interhouse sporting challenges. A huge thank you to the teachers who get out every Friday to help run and co-ordinate these sports for our students. Next term our students will be selecting a sport that they will train in each Friday afternoon in preparation for their interhouse challenge in Week 9 against the seven other schools.
Upcoming District Trials
We have been running our district soccer trials this week with our tennis trials starting next week. Students who have nominated for these sports have been notified on the days to trial.
Have a great week.
