So Much Happening...
It's been a super busy term with lots of exciting learning happening in all of our classes, our new house points system being introduced, special days to participate in, Year 6 aquatics and upgrades to our facilities in process.
The curriculum is a busy space and whilst it is described in year levels, teachers work across multiple levels in each class to be able to teach to the individual needs and abilities of students. We see lots of creative strategies used by teachers to make learning fun for our students and this supports their engagement and motivation to learn. Observing students using whiteboards for writing tasks, duplo sound tiles to build words, sand, water and other materials to measure capacity, and sports equipment to build mini golf courses supporting the learning of physics are just some examples of making learning exciting.
During the past week, teachers gave parents and students the opportunity to attend 3 way interviews where some of this learning and future goals were shared. It was fabulous to listen to students sharing with families during these times and hear how enthusiastic they
are about their time at school. Thank you to all of the families who booked into the interviews and to our teachers for making themselves available, particularly later on Tuesday, to ensure as many families as possible could attend the interviews. We love having these opportunities to connect and share with you.
At the beginning of the year, students were introduced to Reach for the Stars as part of our whole school expectations, learning and values. The stars represent each of our values, with the actions that we see from students displayed around each one. The whole visual is purposely developed in our house team colours to show that it is everyone's responsibility to Reach for the Stars. All staff are using the language to help students focus on appropriate actions in learning, social situations and engagement. This focus is connected to how students earn points for their house, with a trophy at the end of the year to be presented to the house with the most points. Look out for more information next term on how this is progressing.
In Harmony Week, students had some great opportunities to celebrate the diversity of our school community and engage in new learning experiences with their buddies. All classes discussed the significance of Harmony Day, displaying their thinking in their
classes. Our whole school artwork which we will display around the school signifies the diversity and belonging at Para Vista Primary School.
Sports Day last week proved to be a fabulous day with all students participating positively, cheering for their own team as well as the others, filling in for events where teams weren’t even and helping younger students in our team games. Thank you to all families and community members who came to support. We hope you also enjoyed your day.
