Specialist Happenings

Performing Arts

What a first term it has been in the performing arts room. A huge congratulations to all the students for their dedication, creativity and enthusiasm throughout. This fortnight it's the turn of the level 4 students to share their wonderful hip-hop dance routine, which of course they insisted be filmed in front of the green screen.

Physical Education

Our foundation – L2 students finished up their gymnastics sessions with Luke this week and one class was lucky enough to have a special visitor pop in. Alistair Edgar, the CEO if Gymnastics Victoria to see them in action. Bayside is lucky enough to have some great gymnastics clubs in our area, so get involved.

In our recent sessions, our 3-6 PE class wrapped up the net wall unit and dived into Volleyball and Newcomb games. We introduced exciting modifications like Nitroball, allowing students to adapt rules to match their abilities.

Students embraced cooperative and competitive play throughout these games, fostering teamwork while honing their individual skills.

Interschool Sport

Term 1 interschool sport has wrapped up to the term, with some very strong results. We are just finalising results from other schools to see who goes through to division, so watch this space. From all reports, the teams developed their skills and game strategies each week, showed great sportsmanship and resilience. Well done all.

Term 2 teams are now finalised with all students getting either their first or second preference. We will meet as a group on the first Friday of term 2 to chat before training with their teams. Games start week 3. The schedule and game locations will be communicated once finalised. Thanks for a great term.

  Art

Recently, many students participated in the Next Generation Art Exhibition at 26 Advantage gallery in Highett.

This exhibition is a community based project that is run to raise awareness of mental health issues among children. At the opening event on Saturday the 23rd March there were craft and mindfulness workshops for the children to participate in.

I am so impressed that all of my students for put in such an effort in their artwork and so proud of those who were brave enough to put their art on public display. A big thank you to everyone who participated.

I am happy to report that the prize winners are

  • Keer (Chloe) Jian, 1B
  • James Campbell, 4B
  • Alfie Carter, 4B
  • Jason Vagas, 6C
  • Summer Duker, 6A

Each child will be contacted to collect their prize.

Mandarin

Our foundation students have been learning to say "Hello, my name is..." along with "I'm a boy/girl." Through engaging activities and cheerful interactions, they're gaining confidence in using Mandarin phrases.

One highlight of our lessons has been the introduction of a catchy greeting song. Our young learners have been thoroughly enjoying singing along.

Our Grade 2 students have been enthusiastically learning numbers 1 to 100 through singing. They've been singing along to a song that helps reinforce their understanding of Mandarin numbers.
