Classroom Reports

Foundation
This term in Inquiry, our Foundation students have been exploring the question: “What are things made of?”
We began by looking closely at everyday objects and sorting them into groups based on the materials they are made from. The children discovered that some items are made from more than one material. The students have also been exploring the properties of materials. They’ve used words like hard, smooth, flexible, rough, and soft to describe what they see and feel. Through touching, sorting, and comparing objects, they are learning how the properties of a material help decide what it’s used for.
In the coming weeks, we will dig deeper into why certain materials are chosen for particular purposes. We’ll be thinking like designers and scientists — asking questions such as:
- Why is glass used for windows?
- Why are raincoats made from flexible materials?
- Why are some chairs made of wood while others are made of metal or plastic?
To help explore these ideas, we’ll be looking at Baby Bear’s chair from the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

Year 3/4A
The first four weeks of term 4 have flown by! Students in 3/4A have been terrific at settling back into classroom routines considering how busy of a start we have had. Recently, we said goodbye to our Year 12's and wished them all the best on their exams. We thank them for supporting us when they came into our classroom and out in the yard, we appreciate your work!
Attached below are some photos from events we experienced earlier in the term:

Year 3/4B
Over the past 2 weeks, we have been reading The Wild Robot with the Grade 3s and The Wild Robot Escapes with the Grade 4s. Everyone has been enjoying reading these books and we've even had some fun creating our own robots. We have also explored robotics, Ozobots and coding with Ms Mclean for Science.
In Inquiry, we are exploring Geography. We've been looking at different countries, comparing Australia to our neighbouring country of Indonesia and have explored maps.
In Week 2, we had Peter run a wheelchair basketball clinic in Steel Stadium. We got to have a go at using wheelchairs and play wheelchair basketball. Peter talked about the importance of confidence and being thankful for the things we have in our lives.
We also got to head back to the Food Tech room for another round of cooking with Ms Douglas - this time we made scones!
Next week, we have a three day school week, with a student free day on Monday and Melbourne Cup public holiday on Tuesday. Hope everyone has a good extra-long weekend!

Year 5/6
The students had a wonderful time at the Cricket Blast. It was fantastic to hear the students talking positively about their experiences. Thank you to Mr McCallum for his organisation.
In Inquiry, the students are thoroughly enjoying the hands-on learning and activities provided by Ms Young. The science STEM kits have created curiosity and wonder.
The Grade 6 students are enjoying their transition days and will have another one shortly.
Please remember to check compass for notifications and events.
Have a super week.

Year 10
Term 4 has kicked off with great momentum for our Year 10s! After an excellent Term 3 finish—including a successful Work Experience Week in Bendigo—the students have returned energised and engaged across their subjects.
In Humanities, students have dived deep into our Economics unit, exploring personal finance, budgeting, careers, and real-world economic choices. As part of this, they participated in the national ASX Stock Market Game, receiving a virtual $50,000 to invest. Impressively, many students checked their portfolios over the holidays and actively traded in the early weeks of term. We celebrated their achievements with an awards presentation last Friday. Congratulations to Aidan (1st), Tate (2nd), and Jamie (3rd), who each received canteen vouchers for their strong performance—landing in the top 10% of over 17,000 students across Australia!
Meanwhile, in the arts, students have been working on their "appropriated painting" projects—creative reinterpretations of famous artworks with a personal twist. The results have been outstanding! A special shoutout goes to Kayla, whose bold and detailed take on Captain Jack Sparrow wowed staff and students alike.
This term has also seen students making important decisions about their future pathways. With guidance, they’ve been finalising their subject selections for 2026, reflecting on their career goals and interests as they prepare for the transition into their final years of secondary school.
With so many exciting milestones already achieved, we’re proud of how far our Year 10s have come—and we look forward to a strong finish to the year!
