Grade 5/6

Happy mid-term four! Crazy to think we are half-way through our final term for the year (and the final term of our Grade 6's last term of primary school!). Grade 5/6 have been busy bees, learning new content, revising concepts and completing assessment tasks. It has been a good balance of fun and hard work, and the Grade 5/6s have approached each day ready to learn!
Within English, we have finished our whole class text, Rivet Boy! A happy ending was a wonderful finish to our book, with students finishing their last lot of comprehension questions, vocabulary work, sentence level writing tasks based on the text, and classified literary devices used within the final chapter. Our book has been action-packed, but also ignited some rich class discussions and powerful persuasive texts on the topic of child labour. Within Writing, students have worked hard to complete a recount about their favourite school camp so far, which was a lovely way for the Grade Sixes to reflect on their primary school camps over the years. Camp Cooriemungle, The Outside Inn at Wannon Falls and Sovereign Hill were some clear favourites- and it was a joy reading about the students' highlights!
Within Mathematics, students have finished their unit on fractions, decimals and percentages, and had the opportunity to showcase their knowledge through online assessments. The whole class is to be commended for the perseverance and dedication they have demonstrated, and should be incredibly proud of the challenging problem solving they have completed! Now, we have been exploring plotting coordinates and will begin learning about angles. Please remember to encourage your child to continue completing their homework tasks and showing you what they have been learning about in class.
Science has continued to be a highlight, with countless experiments happening each week as we explore chemical sciences. We continued to explore matter in the form of physical, gas and liquid matter, and even created a baking soda and vinegar explosion! We are now exploring changes of state. Within Humanities, we have explored the citizenship and rights of Indigenous Australians, women and migrants over time within Australia. Lots of rich learning and discussions continuing to happen in Grade 5/6!
