Grade 4/5

4/5 News

What a busy and productive fortnight we’ve had in the 4/5 classroom! Last week, we were fortunate to take part in Learning Walks, where visitors came into our classroom to observe the students in action. We received many positive comments about the students’ engagement in their learning, their ability to answer higher-order questions, and the wonderful way learning is presented at George Street.

In Literacy, we have continued our work with The Wild Robot, focusing on how to summarise a passage of text. The students have been very proud of their efforts and, importantly, have remembered where to place commas when sentences start with a dependent clause.

In Mathematics, we have extended our work with data, exploring a variety of graphs, including double line graphs. We’ve also been investigating 3D shapes and their nets. We will continue learning about 3D shapes and their properties next week.

In Humanities, students have enjoyed using technology to explore the tools and weapons traditionally used by Aboriginal peoples. They are looking forward to presenting their chosen item, and I can’t wait to see their finished pieces.

In Science, colourful volcanoes were the highlight of the week! Who would have thought that just three simple ingredients could create such a fizzy and colourful reaction? The students thoroughly enjoyed experimenting—and the best part is, it’s a safe activity to try at home too!
