A Message from the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

World Teachers’ Day – Celebrating Those Who Shape the Future

This week, we celebrate World Teachers’ Day - a day dedicated to honouring the extraordinary work of teachers who inspire minds, open hearts and shape the future of our world. Teaching is the profession that creates every other profession - our doctors, engineers, artists, scientists, leaders and innovators all began their journey in the care of a teacher. Teachers do far more than deliver curriculum, they ignite curiosity, instill confidence, nurture talents and walk beside the children as they grow into the people they are called to be.

“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” — William Butler Yeats

At St Margaret Mary’s, our teachers are not only educators but mentors, role models and champions of every child. They celebrate successes, support struggles and adapt their teaching to ensure each student is known, valued and cared for. They give their time, their energy and their hearts to ensure every child is empowered to learn, grow and flourish.

On behalf of our staff, I would like to sincerely thank our parent community for the beautiful emails, thoughtful cards and generous gifts that were shared with teachers throughout the week. Your words of appreciation were deeply moving and reminded our teachers just how meaningful their work is. The partnership between home and school is vital and your gratitude highlights the strong sense of community that makes our school so special.

A special thank you to our Year Four parents who organised the beautiful morning tea for our staff. It was a wonderful celebration filled with delicious food. Your generosity and hospitality created a truly memorable occasion for our teachers and we are so grateful for the care and effort you put in to honour them.

Teaching is a vocation of heart and hope. Teachers believe in the potential of every child - even before that child believes in themselves. They speak life into dreams, guide children through challenges and help them see that they can achieve more than they ever imagined. On World Teachers’ Day, we not only say thank you—we acknowledge that teachers are builders of the future, shaping society one child at a time.

A Prayer for Our Teachers

Loving God,

We thank You for the gift of our teachers

for their dedication, their wisdom and their deep care for every child.

Bless them with strength when days are challenging,

with joy when hearts are weary,

and with the knowledge that the work they do is sacred and life-changing.

May they continue to inspire, guide and light the way for our children,

as they shape not only minds, but hearts for the future.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Thank you for celebrating and honouring our teachers. Together, we continue to build a community grounded in gratitude, faith and a shared commitment to the success of every child.

Kind regards,

Grace Carlo-Stella
