Student Action Shines on Theme Day
Inspired by his classroom learning about ecosystems and our responsibility to care for the natural world, a Year 1 student took meaningful action during the school’s Under the Sea theme day. After learning about how pollution affects ocean ecosystems, Nidish from 1B designed a creative costume showing two sides of the ocean — one clean and happy, the other dirty and sad.
He explained, “For theme day I dressed up as the ocean. On one side the ocean was clean and happy. On the other side the ocean was dirty with rubbish and sad. After learning about ocean ecosystems, I felt worried about the ocean getting littered. I wanted to share a message with others to not litter and take better care of the ocean.”
This powerful act of advocacy shows how learning can inspire young minds to take action and make a difference in caring for our planet.

Being a Risk Taker in Learning
This week, our focus Learner Profile attribute is Risk Taker — showing courage to explore new challenges and grow through learning experiences. In Year 5, students have been preparing their Shark Tank business pitch presentations for our finance investment team. Moksha from 5C showed incredible courage by stepping outside her comfort zone to present her pitch to Primary Principal, Maria Denholm.
She shared, “Today I was a risk taker because I had to present my business pitch in front of the class and the principal. I am normally a very shy person who does not like to talk in front of others. I talked to Miss Tapper about how I felt and she encouraged me to show courage and stand in front of the audience. This helped me as a person because I will need to be a bigger risk taker in my learning in future and taking small risks now helps me work towards bigger ones later. I feel happy and proud that I presented in front of everyone, and I know I can do it again.”
