A place for information to support mental health and wellbeing within our HEPS community.
In a school context, it is important to equip students with the skills to proactively manage anxiety, in order to prevent it from impacting upon their learning and wellbeing.
B below are some supports that children and parents could utilise to support anxiety in children. The BRAVE program is one support and can be worked through at home by both adults and children.
How does BRAVE work? The BRAVE Program seeks to develop students' understanding of anxiety and to equip them with anxiety management strategies. It is a cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) intervention, and is designed to address the following symptoms: Physical sensations (e.g., nausea), Negative thoughts and beliefs, Behaviours (e.g., avoidance of feared situations). To improve these symptoms and equip young people with the skills to manage anxiety, BRAVE teaches: Relaxation strategies, Breathing retraining, Positive self-talk, Coping statements, and Problem-solving skills.
