Level 5
Students in Level 5 continue to display a growth mindset with everything they do.
They have shown resilience and teamwork recently with filming in Inquiry using some new technologies, microphones, and green screens.
Inquiry
Students have been learning about Survival with the Throughline of Geography. Students have been learning about the weather, natural disasters, science - earth & space. Level 5 students have been filming in Inquiry and making their own BTN episode to demonstrate their understanding of the topic 'how places change and are managed by people'.
Maths
Students have been learning about volume. Calculating the volume and surface area.
To demonstrate success, students identify what volume is, calculate the volume of a shape, draw different views of shapes, and connect nets to their irregular shapes.
Writing
During writing, students have been learning about Narrative writing, this week focusing on editing their drafts. They have been consolidating their skills by looking at one paragraph, then working with a peer and giving suggestions for improvement. Sometimes we ask students to 'Bump up' their work for improvement, and this is one way we do this in Level 5. Lots of editing requires students to change some of the words they use and rewrite sentences, add punctuation, and read their work, making sure that it is engaging for their audiences.
Publishing writing requires students to carefully write or type out their finished drafts after editing with others. It is a proud moment when they produce a finished piece and these are displayed in our classrooms. Students in class are reading about their writing.
Roo-ver visit
HEPS was incredibly lucky to have the Space Roo-ver visit our school, with a HEPS parent talking to us all about the technology.
Reminders
We welcome any parents who have helped support learning in classrooms, on excursions or camps in any way to our HEPS morning team on Wednesday, the 10th of December in the staff room from 8.30-9.30 am.
Week 11: Final week of school
Monday 15th December - HEPS Christmas Concert
Friday 19th December - Final day and final assembly. Families are all welcome!
