Level 4

Reading

We are coming to the end of our class novel, Hatchet, and are very close to finding out if Brian is going to be rescued or if he is destined to live forever in the Canadian wilderness! To gain a deeper understanding of the text, we have been completing learning tasks about summarising, cause and effect and inference. To practise our inferencing skills, we have been thinking about what characters such as Brian's mum and dad might be feeling, based on our real world knowledge and experience, as the story is not told from these characters' perspectives.

Writing

We have been taking part in 'Slow Writes'. Each lesson has a different topic and we only have to write six sentences, but each sentence has a 'rule', such as must use a spelling list word, must contain an adverb, must use dialogue or must use certain specific vocabulary. It is helping us to slow down our writing and make sure each and every sentence counts!

We are also in the process of applying for our pen licences!! Some of us are already using our new pens, practising for moving to Level 5 in 2026.

Maths

Across all the grades, we have been looking at a variety of revision topics, depending on the needs of each class. Areas of study have included: multiplication, division, analogue clocks, operations with fractions and decimals. We have also been learning about the Cartesian plane and how it works.
