What's happening in Italian?

Salve,

As we quickly approach the end of the school year, the students have continued to work hard, and it’s been a joy to see their growth, enthusiasm, and achievements in Italian this term.

The Prep students are integrating their understanding of numbers and 2D shapes in a writing and colouring activity. They are also developing their visual awareness by discovering how simple shapes can be used to build creative and colourful images.

The Year 1 and 2 students are identifying 2D shapes in pictures and writing their Italian names with correct spelling. Building on this learning, they will plan and design their own creative artworks using 2D shapes and their imagination.

They have been enjoying a fun game called “Boys vs Girls.” In this game, one boy and one girl take turns guessing the name of a 2D shape in Italian. Each correct answer earns a step forward, and the first to reach the teacher wins! Their competitive sides definitely shine through during this activity.

The students in Years 3 and 4 have been developing their Italian language skills through hands-on activities with 2D shapes. They began by sorting and classifying pictures according to shape, and then explored their surroundings on a ‘shape walk’, drawing items in the classroom that matched each shape.

Finally the students participated in a fun memory challenge, where students named the missing shape in Italian.  Their confidence and teamwork shone through as they took turns leading the game.

Our Year 5 and 6 students combined their mathematical thinking with language skills in a 'shape' reading challenge. They read written clues describing the properties of different 2D shapes , such as the number of sides and angles.  They then used this information to identify, draw, and label each shape in Italian. This activity strengthened their reading comprehension, understanding of geometric properties, number knowledge, and accurate Italian spelling.
