What's happening in the Performing Arts room?
In Prep we have been learning about the different instrument families, and how different instruments make sounds. We explored how percussion, brass, woodwind and string instruments make sounds.
In Grades One and Two we used our knowledge of instruments and the sounds they make to help add sound effects to the story 'We're going on a bear hunt'. Each group was given a different part of the story (like the long, wavy grass or the thick, oozy mud) and then used a variety of percussion instruments to bring this to life. We ended our lesson by reading the story as a class and playing our sound effects as we read.
In Grades Three and Four this week were exploring soundscapes and how we can use instruments to create sounds that we would hear in different places. Students worked in small groups and created soundscapes to take us to the beach, the city, a rainforest, a waterfall, the outback and a starry night.
In Grades Five and Six we have been looking at how music can be used to enhance storytelling. In their groups, students have been rehearsing a variety of sound effects to enhance the telling of a picture story book. Their final performances were recorded so they can be shared in their portfolios.
Each week, four students from across the school are acknowledged as our Performers of the Week, celebrating their talent and effort in their lessons.
