Third Place in the SIS Book in a Day Competition 2025!

A huge congratulations to our 2025 Book in a Day Team – Audrey L, Alyna J, Ava G, Jamie B, Masa B, Tessa D, Renae S and Oliva C – who came 3rd overall.

Student voting placed the team in the top 4 and then “Fire on Ice” was read by an editor from Scholastic Australia. Please read the amazing comments below:

3rd place: Fire on Ice - Nazareth College

Fire on Ice gave an incredibly realistic impression of what it must be like to be a competitive figure skater. I was instantly absorbed into the story’s world, and felt a strong emotional connection to Seraphina and Hades. The writing in this story was the strongest of the four finalists.

The cover art and title design were exceptional—definite ‘wow’ factor. The poses and facial expressions on the internal art were also powerful. Allowing for the different illustration styles of the artists, it could have made for a more polished look if the internals illustrations were a little more consistent—for example keeping to the same size or shape, or using similar palettes.

The prompts for this one seemed particularly challenging, where the intergalactic lizard never quite fit in with the figure skating drama. Hades destroying the rink didn’t quite fit the scenario prompt of ‘lizards taking over the world’. I was nevertheless impressed by the amount of heart and emotion the team packed into the story, and the ending was thrilling.

Vinnies News

Thank you to EVERYONE who supported the Assist A Student Appeal on Wednesday 29 October, by embracing the casual clothes fundraiser and purchasing sausages. We were blessed with beautiful weather, which allowed us to cook and sell the snags!

A huge thank you to Ms Caitlin Mackay, Ms Renee Brash, Josh S , Anesti K, Xavier  M and Matthew G for cooking 700 sausages! To Ms Sandra D'Souza, who multitasked in several capacities - thank you. Thanks to Ms Melissa Hilton for having the card payment available and counting the cash! Thanks to the Vinnies who helped to set up, sell and clean up.

These days are not possible without the generosity of everyone. We raised $2844.50, which is a mighty effort. This will support the education of 40 children for a year in less developed countries.

Our final appeal for the year is the Christmas Toy drive.

Following the amazing contributions from the Year 12 cohort (see the Giving Tree in the Resource Centre for inspiration), we are asking all students to make a donation of a toy suitable for a child aged 1-18 years.

These donations will be distributed to families within our local area who may not be able to afford presents for their children this Christmas.

A Santa Sack will be placed in every Pastoral room, and over the coming weeks, we would love to see them filled with generosity, love and fun, in the form of toys.

This appeal will run right through to 5 December (last day of Term 4).

Thank you all for thinking of others.

Year 10 Concept Art and Digital Rendering (CAnDR)

Year 10 Concept Art and Digital Rendering students have learnt how to work as a Concept Art to produce unique digital landscape pieces that tell a narrative. Starting with a line drawing produced in their Visual Art Journals, students scanned this drawing, brought it into Adobe Photoshop and then used different tools, including a Wacom Graphics Tablet, to paint over the drawing digitally. The results have turned out great, with strong uses of colour! Please take a look at the detailed pieces below.
