Inclusion update

In light of recent media coverage surrounding the government’s implementation of a 48-hour response standard for bullying incidents, the leadership and wellbeing teams at CJC have met to ensure our school continues to meet and uphold these new national expectations.
Under the Federal Government’s $10 million National Anti-Bullying Plan, all Australian schools will be required to respond to any reported bullying incident within 48 hours (two school days). Of this funding, $5 million will go towards a national awareness campaign, and a further $5 million will support the creation of a national resource hub for teachers, students, and parents.
A National Standard would not replace or be counter to anti-bullying efforts already in place but rather strengthen commitments nationally and inform effective approaches to ensure that collectively Australia is taking the best possible stance against bullying and other harmful behaviours. The standard will give teachers, parents and students the confidence that, no matter where a student goes to school, bullying will be appropriately addressed and will be consistent and transparent.
At CJC, we remain committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all students. Our Bullying Prevention Policy, attached below for your review, outlines what constitutes bullying and the steps we take once an allegation is made. Please note that serious incidents, including cyberbullying, are considered criminal offences and may be referred to Victoria Police.
What the New 48-Hour Rule Means
Purpose: To ensure schools provide a prompt and transparent response to bullying reports.
Timeline: Schools must make a reasonable effort to begin their response within two school days of a bullying report or observed incident.
Immediate Actions: This may include initial conversations with the students involved, as well as communication with their parents or guardians.
Foundation: The standard is based on recommendations from the Anti-Bullying Rapid Review, developed in consultation with educators, students, and families.
CJC is proud to support these strengthened measures and remains dedicated to ensuring every student feels safe, heard, and supported at school.
