What's happening in and outside the school?

Camp Somers

On Tuesday, 21st October, eighteen students from CJC went to Somers School Camp for nine days.  During the week, we took part in fun activities like the 18 metre challenge swing, flying fox, boating, surfing, and archery. We also learned about nature through environmental studies sessions, visiting Coolart and the beach to explore wildlife.

Evenings were filled with concerts, a disco, a campfire, a night hike, and tabloid sports. Overall, Somers Camp was an amazing experience that helped us become more independent.

Prep Science

In Science, our Prep students are learning about materials and their properties. They have made connections with their literacy learning by exploring books in the That’s not my… series. Students read the books and identified the words that described the appearance and texture of different objects, and practised writing those words. It’s amazing how much progress they have made this year!

Digital Citizenship Week 2025

This week, students have taken part in targeted and integrated lessons focused on online safety and digital wellbeing, connecting these important themes to their current units of work. The week also coincides with our final Inform and Empower incursions for the year, running across this week and next, which further support students in developing safe and responsible online habits. Our current and newly appointed STEM Leaders also took the lead in interviewing students from across the school to explore their understanding of what it means to be a positive digital citizen. Thank you Cevan, Malo, Jake and Idelle for supporting this important cause.

Grade 3/4 Digital Technologies Project

Zoos Victoria STEM Design Challenge

Our Year 3/4 students have been working hard this semester as part of the Zoos Victoria STEM Design Challenge, combining Science and Digital Technologies to design enrichment prototypes that support animal wellbeing. Using the Design Thinking process, students researched their chosen zoo animal, brainstormed creative solutions, and developed 3D prototypes using Tinkercad.

I had an incredibly difficult job selecting from so many high-quality designs, but I’m thrilled to announce that 10 students have been chosen to represent our school at the Melbourne Zoo Showcase on Friday, 14th December. Below are their chosen five designs, along with several shortlisted entries that highlight the creativity and compassion of all our 3/4 students.

A huge congratulations to every student for contributing to this meaningful community project supporting wildlife conservation and innovation in STEM! We look forward to sharing our innovative designs at the Melbourne Zoo.
