Visual Arts - Yayoi Kusama

Last term in Visual Arts, students learnt about the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama and made their own art pieces based on them. Kusama produces art in the form of painting, sculpture, video and installation. 

 

All year levels explored  Yayoi Kusama's bright sculptures and obsession with dots. Across the learning communities, each year level looked at particular art elements within the Yayoi Kusama unit.

  •  The Year Preps worked on primary and secondary colours, creating butterflies by mixing primary colours. 

  • The Year 1/2s looked at complementary and contrasting colours creating Kusama inspired pumpkins using contrasting colours.

  • The Year 3/4s looked at shapes and movement and created biomorphic drawings.

  •  The Year 5/6s investigated sculpture making and patterns creating Kusama inspired flowers and nets as well as sculptures. 

As part of their learning, the students demonstrated Yayoi Kusama’s use of colour, style and repetition. Check out their pieces below:
