Assistant Principals' Report

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of Hazel Glen College,

On Tuesday 3rd June, we welcomed Kids First facilitator Shardae Grenfell to the College. Shardae presented at our Kids First Parent Information Session, speaking about protective behaviours and online safety. She also outlined the Kids First program that will be delivered in Semester 2 through incursions for our Year 2 to Year 6 students.

We would like to extend our thanks to all the parents who were able to attend the session, and we hope you found it valuable. Further information about the program has been posted to Compass for parents who were unable to attend.

On Friday, we were wowed by the musical talents of Year 5E, who delivered a drumming extravaganza with Mrs Lambie. The students have been honing their percussion skills using Boomwhackers to create an energetic and engaging performance. It was fantastic to see Barry showcase his drumming talents on the drum kit in support of his class, along with some wonderful dancers who added to the excitement. Thank you to all the parents who attended our Assembly—we look forward to sharing many more wonderful class performances in the future.

The Primary Years has had a big two weeks of incursions, with students diving deeper into their Curiosity topics. Our Year 3 students participated in the Wanyara Art Incursion, where they learnt about Aboriginal art practices and how art is used for cultural expression and storytelling. Our Year 6 cohort took part in the Parliament of Victoria Incursion, with students presenting their debates in class as well. Meanwhile, our Prep students enjoyed the annual Marble Run Incursion in the Secondary Years area, supported by Secondary Years teacher Mr Berry. A big thank you to all our wonderful teachers who organised these special learning experiences for our students.

With the change of season, we’re all in need of extra layers to stay warm. A reminder that students must wear the correct uniform, as outlined in our College Primary Years Uniform Guidelines. This includes wearing the appropriate jumper and/or jacket. Students are also encouraged to have their hair tied up, and nail polish and cosmetics are not permitted.

Teachers will continue to remind students about correct uniform expectations and will communicate with families when students are out of uniform. We understand there may be occasions when your child is not in full uniform; in these instances, please contact your child’s classroom teacher to let them know.

2026 Prep Enrolments

We are now taking enrolments for Prep 2026.  Please contact our Primary Years office staff to book a tour and collect an Enrolment Information Pack. We are really proud of our College, teachers and students, and welcome any families who would like a tour during the school day or in the afternoon with our Principal Team.

Accessible Parking

In the Primary Years 'Kiss and Drop' zone, we have two accessible parking spaces. We are asking parents and carers to be mindful of these spaces at drop-off and pick-up times at the 'Kiss and Drop' zone, as we do have students and parents with impaired mobility who rely on these spaces.  Thanks for your understanding.

Student Online Chat Groups

Chat groups through games and messenger apps for primary school-aged students can sometimes lead to misunderstandings and disagreements that carry over into the classroom. This can make it harder for students to focus and often requires teachers to spend time helping students resolve these issues, even though it has occurred outside of school hours. We encourage parents to actively supervise and be aware of their child's communication online and talk to them about how to be kind and respectful in their interactions.  We appreciate parent's and carer's support in promoting a positive and calm school environment.

The eSafety Commission has valuable resources for parents around a range of topics. Please see the link below to find out more.

Semester 1 Reports

Teachers are currently writing students' Semester 1 reports.  Semester 1 reports will be released to parents and carers on the afternoon of Thursday 3rd July 2025 via Compass.

If you have any concerns or questions about your child's learning, please contact your child's teacher to organise a mutually convenient time for a phone conversation or a face-to-face meeting.
