TIDDALICK the Frog Incursion -
On Thursday, the Prep students were treated to a special Incursion called ‘Tiddalick the Frog’. This interactive experience brings the beloved Aboriginal Dreamtime story to life through drama and storytelling. It promotes curiosity, collaboration, and a deeper appreciation of shared stories. They worked together to create a stage performance, dress up in costumes, and bring the story to life. It was a fantastic experience that celebrated teamwork, creativity, and culture and we all had so much fun!
Learning in Action:
Literacy
In Prep Literacy, we’ve been busy learning to read and write words using our new sound codes: u, y, j and k. The students have been decoding and writing words such as jet, kid, yet and run with growing confidence.
In Sentence Level Writing, our young writers have been learning what makes a great sentence. We’ve been focusing on using capital letters at the beginning and full stops at the end. The Preps have also been creating expanded sentences on their whiteboards that include a ‘who’, ‘what’, and ‘where’, showing fantastic growth in their writing skills.
In Literature, we’ve been diving into the world of Australian animals, with a special focus on koalas and emus. Did you know that eucalyptus leaves are poisonous to most animals – except koalas? Our Preps were fascinated by this fun fact and loved learning more through stories and discussions.
Preview - Preps will learn about lyrebirds, sharks, and green tree frogs. They will continue developing their sentence writing by forming sentences that include a ‘who,’ ‘what,’ and ‘when.’ Students will also learn to apply new sounds and digraphs in their writing.
Numeracy
Over the past fortnight, students have learnt the concepts of partitioning and subitising numbers up to 10. Subitising is the ability to instantly recognise the number of objects in a small collection without counting, ie. identifying the number 4 on a dice. This skill is crucial for developing fluency in addition and subtraction. Partitioning involves breaking numbers into parts, which helps students understand the relationship between numbers and their components. Students have learnt these concepts by using flip counters, five frames, dice and their whiteboards to record the parts in a number.
Preview - Students will continue working on partitioning and subitising for the next fortnight.
Wellbeing
As we wrapped up our Friendology Unit, students reflected on the key concepts and social skills they had developed throughout the term. They revisited important Friendship Facts and practised strategies for initiating conversations and forming new friendships. We also explored how to navigate challenging or “tricky” social situations, helping students build confidence in handling conflict and misunderstandings in a positive way.
In our Respectful Relationships Unit, students participated in interactive games such as Simon Says and Partner Colours. These activities focused on the importance of active listening, respecting others, and working cooperatively. Through playful collaboration, students developed their ability to follow instructions, support peers, and work together towards a shared goal.
These lessons have helped lay a strong foundation for positive social interactions and respectful relationships both in and out of the classroom.
Preview - Next week we will continue encouraging and fostering help-seeking behaviours as it is one way to improve mental health and wellbeing. It is important we work with students to make sure they are aware about help-seeking avenues and develop their confidence to seek help from an appropriate source when needed.
PMP
The PMP (Perceptual Motor Program) in primary schools is a movement-based program designed to enhance a child's perception and understanding of themselves and their environment. It focuses on developing gross motor skills, fine motor skills, eye-hand coordination, spatial awareness, and more through various activities. The Preps have loved starting this program. We look forward to sharing more photos soon.

Green Team News:
Under the guidance of Mrs Stokol and Mrs Alexander, the Green Team met for the first time this week. What a meeting it was! All up across years 3-5 we have close to 50 very excited and passionate students wanting to do their part. Whether it’s helping to keep the school free of rubbish, looking after and developing the plants gardens, educating the school community about sustainability, there was a buzz in the air as students shared their ideas and signed up for roles. A new initiative we’ve introduced this term is the collection of 10c containers. The special lunch day during last term raised $21. We look forward to saving these containers on a daily basis from going to landfill and turning them into cash. Money raised will be invested back into Green Team initiatives.
Involvement in the Green Team is all inclusive. It’s not too late for your child to get involved should they wish.
