Message from Principal Sarah

From Sarah Nightingale, Principal

Welcome back to Term 2. I hope everyone has had a relaxing break, after the holidays and long weekend, and is ready for a big term ahead.

ANZAC Day Commemorations

To commemorate the National Day of Remembrance we held a whole school assembly conducted by our student leaders on Wednesday 24th April at our Molesworth Street Campus. Our student leaders also attended Melbourne Legacy’s 93rd ANZAC Commemoration for Students on Monday 28th April. The student leaders were invited to lay a floral tribute on behalf of North Melbourne Primary School during the ceremony.

Breakfast Club

This term, we’re excited to announce the launch of the NMPS Breakfast Club, starting at our Errol Street campus.

The Breakfast Club will run on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 8:20am to 8:40am, and is open to all students from Prep to Six. While it is available to everyone, it is primarily aimed at supporting families who may need a little extra help in ensuring their child starts the day with a nutritious breakfast. More information about Breakfast Club can be found on Compass.

Staff Professional Learning

Last term, I shared some information about the Professional Learning staff participate in at NMPS. Our school values the learning and development of our staff, and the positive impact this has on student outcomes and school improvement.

We are proud to share that Josie, Ari and Jen R have begun their professional learning journey through the Teaching Excellence Program at the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership.

This program enables teachers to advance their capabilities and excellence in teaching. Through the program, Josie, Ari and Jen R will grow their knowledge of teaching practice by participating in 10 days of professional learning and inquiring deeply into two areas of their practice, using the evidence-informed practice, generative AI, First Nations’ perspectives, student engagement tools and discipline-specific learning. They will also be inspired by national and international experts in the field of education through two dedicated conferences.

We look forward to working with Josie, Ari and Jen R to implement their knowledge and skills from the program to continue to support student outcomes and wellbeing at our school. We are proud that we have such amazing teachers representing our school and supporting the Academy in raising the status of this profession!

Upcoming Curriculum Day

This term we also have our whole school Curriculum Day on Friday 23rd May. Teachers will be focusing on the improved delivery of high-quality teaching and learning, including moderation, assessment and reporting. Students will not be required to attend school on this day. Biz-E-Kidz will provide a service for students if required. Bookings are now open and can be made through SmartCentral.
