On Monday the 28th of April school leadership team consisting of school captains Andrej, Lachlan, Mira, Temwa, house captains Jaz, Ronin, Iris, Islay, Angie, Nishan, Teddy, Lillian and cultural leader Dewa attended the 93rd ANZAC Commemoration for Students at Shrine of Remembrance.

Below are a couple recounts of the day by Mira and Teddy in 6F.

We climbed down from the tram and walked through the Kings Domain, next to the botanical gardens. Going through was like going back in history, statues of those who had fought and died or else done some other great acts of selflessness. They were all there. We were given some rosemary taped to an Aussie flag and a leaflet and moved off to find seats.

I sat down and stared around at the crowd of other students in primary and high school. We were all here and for the same reason: the 93rd ANZAC Commemoration Ceremony For Students. We were at the Shrine of Remembrance and the day was hot sun beating down upon us. Representing NMPS as we sat there listening intently. We were the school leaders, house captains and cultural leader.

After the acknowledgement of country we watched the perfect synchronised steps of the Melbourne High School cadets as they marched out as a guard of honour, prior to the arrival of the Governor of Victoria: Margaret Gardener.

We listened as a group to the Governor and other speakers commemorating those who had fought as young volunteers some lying about their age, enlisting and fighting as young as 14. Then, a band started and we listened as the choir sung both Waltzing Matilda and the National anthem.

As one, we then rose to our feet and watched as the representatives from each of the different schools rose to place their reefs in a pile on the warm grass. For our school, these were Andrej and Temwa who had the honour of laying a wreath. All the while listening to the band and last post. Then, still standing, we watched silently as the Governor left and we slowly made our way back to school.

I made my way through the  bustling crowd and took my seat, full of pride and excitement that I was representing my school at the 93rd legacy ANZAC commemoration ceremony. I sat quietly waiting to start, when suddenly a loud drum played over the speakers. I whipped my head around to see a formation of soldiers marching in unison towards me. After they finished their long commemorative march, the event began. After the Welcome to Country and the honouring of her excellency Margaret Gardner (Governor General of Victoria) by the guards. The Governor General gave a speech about the Anzacs, war and how we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Over the course of the event, more speeches were made about the ANZAC Tradition and sacrifices made and each were different in its own moving way. Temwa and Andrej were responsible for carrying the wreath and when the time came they carried it up to the eternal flame and laid it down respectfully. The Ode was then spoken and then the last post was played. After the trumpet ceased we all stood for the minute of silence and then departed back to school.
