Year 5 News

From Matilda B, Year 5 teacher

Lets get cooking

Term 2 has kicked off to a great start for the Year 5s. We are super excited about this term because we get to start Cooking! We can’t wait to get into the kitchen and enjoy the delicious food we will learn to make.

In Week 1, Molly’s class made an ANZAC wreath to show at our NMPS ANZAC day assembly. The whole class worked together to colour and cut out poppies and leaves, which they put together to create a wreath.

We were also lucky enough to have the Lachlan Carter author visit. Lachlan Carter is the author of the BIG TROUBLE graphic novels.

Here’s more on his visit from Miranda, Rose and Vincent in 5A:

This week has been ecstatic so far, with the top hit ; The author visit. It has been very fun with the legendary author: Lachlan Carter. Buckle your seat belts cause we are going to dive deep into the archive of year 5.

Lachlan Carter, the author of Big Trouble, told us how he usually plans his writing pieces. He also told us how to generate ideas from scratch. He showed us lots of drafts of his storyboards, after sitting on the floor for a while, we got handed a small book and made our own story that we’re going to continue this week! We admire him and his ideas and are so glad we got to learn from him!

Hi NMPS, my name is Andy from Year 5.

At break times you can find me at the Grassket ball court, Playing Basketball. I enjoy playing basketball and I have been practicing since last year. My favourite basketball player is LeBron James because he is good at defending and scoring too.

If you see me at the Grassket ball court, feel free to join in.
