Foundation Classroom News

It's always busy in the Foundation classroom and this fortnight has been no exception!
Inquiry - The Changing World
A focus of our Inquiry topic this term is to observe, record and describe change; changes we see in people, things and the world around us. Our first experiment was to observe and record the changes we saw when we placed orbeez in water. We were all amazed at how large the orbeez grew over a number of days!
Our next experiment is to grow our own dwarf pea plants. We placed 2 pea seeds onto a bed of cotton wool in a clear container. The students are now responsible for making sure that their seeds have the things they need to make them grow - sunlight and water. At the end of the first week of this experiement, we are noticing some small but significant changes!
Developing our Oral Language skills
Show and tell is an important part of the oral language program in Literacy. In enables students to have an opportunity to share things that are important to them with their class mates, in a supportive and safe environment. Even our most shy students have enjoyed sharing new or special things with the class. We've seen pets, toys, photos and treasures and also heard some great stories. All students practise their listening, speaking and questioning skills during these sessions. Here are some highlights!
Special Event - Ghana Beat The Drum Performance
The Foundation students thoroughly enjoyed the special drumming performance last week. In class, we find times when we can use Jonas's special way of clapping and dancing to make our learning extra fun! We had a group of students volunteer to perform in front of the school, playing a range of different instruments.
