St Mary’s Cross Country 2025 

Dear St Mary’s School Community,

This year, all St Mary’s students will participate in our annual Cross Country event on Friday 2nd of May.

 

Students in Prep, Grade 1 and Grade 2 will be running the cross-country track around the oval with a 9.00am start time.  

 

Grade 3, Grade 4, Grade 5 and Grade 6 students will be running on the track across the road on the Hastings Foreshore, with a 12pm start time.

 

This event is a House-Spirit event and every student running will earn house points for their team.  Points are added up from both the Junior and Senior event,  all students and staff are encouraged to wear their house colours. Ribbons, socks, tee-shirts etc (if they have them).

Our student house leaders assist in running the Junior event and will be proudly wearing their teams' colours too.

House leaders will have areas ready for each house team to sit in and cheer on their runners.

Race 1

9.00 am

Grade 1’s

 

  • Students will run the cross-country track on the oval, collecting a token for each lap run.
  • It is an individual challenge to see how far they can run. 
  • Each student will receive house points for their team in the following ways:
    • participation
    • individual effort
    • house spirit
  • Each student receives a competitor ribbon on the day.

RECESS

Gr 3,4,5 and 6 students

 

  • Students will walk to the foreshore cross-country track and gather in house team groups. 
  • Students will run the races in their age groups and compete to earn house points for their team.
  • Each student will receive house points for their team in the following ways:
    • Participation
    • individual effort
    • house spirit
  • Each student receives a participation ribbon on the day.

Race 1-2km

8/9/10 yr olds

11 yr olds

Race 3-3km

12/13 yr olds

Students competing in the 8/9/10yr old races will complete a 2km race.

Students competing in the 11/12/13 yr old races will complete a 3km race.

 

We do require parent helpers on the day for both events. Please let Dave or Lisa know if you can assist on the day. We require at least 6 helpers to run a safe event.

St Mary’s District Cross Country runners will be determined from this event, which is being held on Thursday, 15th May at the Hastings Foreshore.

 

Students in year 3 - 6 walking to the foreshore permission is covered in our Local Excursion Permission note. Please acknowledge the Operoo for this event by Wednesday afternoon.
