IMPORTANT MEDICAL INFORMATION

STUDENT MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS
Dear Parents/Guardians/Carers,
We kindly ask that you speak with your child about any medical needs they may have, ensuring that the school is informed of any relevant health conditions. Please note the following important information:
Medical Needs for Excursions and Activities: Students should always carry their Ventolin puffers, EpiPens, or diabetic supplies when participating in outings or external activities, as sports bags may be locked in change rooms and are not always accessible.
Anaphylaxis: Students with anaphylaxis must have the following:
- An EpiPen, labelled with the student’s name, kept with the school office along with their updated Action Plan. Staff will take this EpiPen during excursions, camps, or sports activities.
- A personal, labelled EpiPen with the student at all times.
If there are any changes to their Action Plan, please provide the updated information to the school. If your child no longer has an allergy, we require written confirmation from your doctor.
Asthma: Parents are asked to provide an updated Asthma Action Plan and an in-date, labelled Ventolin inhaler to be kept in the Sick Bay at all times. This will be taken by staff when your child is out of school for excursions, camps, or sports.
It is essential that students with asthma carry their personal Ventolin inhaler with them at all times, as classrooms may not always be near lockers, and quick access during an emergency is crucial.
Medication at School: The school is unable to provide medication, except for EpiPens or Ventolin if none have been supplied. If your child requires medication for conditions such as hayfever, cramps, or pain relief, they may carry a single dose with them, or parents can complete a Medication Authority Form to have the medication securely stored in Sick Bay.
For ongoing medication, please complete a Medication Authority Form (available on request) and provide the medication to Sick Bay staff, who will securely store it. Students will need to report to the office at the designated times to access their medication.
Important: Students are not permitted to share any medication with other students.
Medication Expiry Dates: Please ensure your child’s medication is up-to-date, especially for EpiPens and Ventolin inhalers. If you receive a reminder from the school to update these, kindly respond promptly for your child’s safety.
Emergency Medications: In case of an asthma or anaphylaxis emergency, emergency supplies of Ventolin and EpiPens are available in Sick Bay. All Oberon staff are aware of the location of these medications.
- Hydration: During warmer weather, please remind your child to drink plenty of water throughout the day. Water bottles are allowed in class.
These guidelines are in place to ensure the health and safety of all students. Thank you for your cooperation and support.
STUDENT ACCIDENT INSURANCE, AMBULANCE COVER & PRIVATE PROPERTY
This is an important reminder regarding student insurance and the coverage of medical and personal property costs:
- Accident Insurance & Medical Costs: Parents/Guardians of students who do not have student accident insurance are responsible for any medical treatment costs resulting from an injury, including ambulance attendance and transport fees.
- Ambulance Cover: We strongly advise parents to have ambulance cover. In the event of an emergency, an ambulance will be called if necessary.
- Insurance Policies: Parents can purchase insurance policies through commercial insurers to cover these potential costs.
- Personal Property: Please be aware that the Department of Education does not provide insurance for personal property brought to school, and it is not liable for any loss or damage to such items.
Thank you for your understanding.
