PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Staffing
Since the first newsletter of term there have been some further confirmed changes to our staffing for term two. I am pleased to announce that:
- Mr Luke McNabb has been appointed to teach Humanities and English for the remainder of term two.
- Ms Caitlyn Parfett will be accessing family leave and has been replaced by Ms Madelyn Alexander who will be teaching Health and Physical Education.
Staff Professional Learning day
On Monday 12th May, all staff members participated in a day of professional learning which was organised by the school Professional Learning team. The focus of the day was further implementation of our Teaching and Learning Framework, ‘The Oberon Good Lesson’.
School uniform
A reminder to parents that all students are expected to wear the correct school uniform at all times. With the weather starting to be a lot colder in the morning it is important that students have an appropriate Oberon High School top to wear to keep them warm. There are a range of options available through our uniform supplier PSW in Geelong. If you haven’t already done so, can you ensure that all uniform is labelled with your family name, so that this can be returned if found at school.
Student attitude to school surveys
In the upcoming weeks the school will be conducting the annual ‘Attitudes to School survey’ with students from Years 7 to 12 students which is overseen by the Department of Education Training (DET). The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school. Our school will use the survey results to plan programs and activities to improve your child's experience at school. All responses to the survey are anonymous. This year the ‘Attitudes to School survey’ will be conducted at our school over the next month.
Student absences
It is important for students to be attending school on a regular basis to maximise their learning, engagement and maintain social connections with their peers. We are often hearing from parents that students are late to school or not attending school due to sleep deprivation. Research has shown that a consistent routine at home as well as minimising the use of electronic devices prior to going to bed will maximise the sleep that young people require.
