Uniform Focus - Working Together to Support our School Culture

Dear Parents,
Why This Matters: Feedback and Our School Values
Recent feedback from our community, including parents and staff, has made it clear that, despite our efforts to refine the uniform policy in line with student and family needs and broader social expectations, we are still facing daily challenges in getting it right. We need your help.
At The Gap SHS, our values—Thinking Big, Stepping Up, Paying It Forward, and Being Kind—shape everything we do, including the standards we set for how we present ourselves each day.
Wearing the school uniform is more than a rule—it’s a daily expression of our shared identity and pride. A consistent approach helps create a sense of belonging, fosters equity, and ensures our students start each day in a focused and respectful mindset. When students wear their uniform correctly, they are Stepping Up and demonstrating care for their learning, peers, and school community.
How You Can Help We understand mornings can be busy and that every family’s circumstances are unique. Your support in checking uniforms, reinforcing expectations, and having conversations at home makes a real difference. It’s a way of Paying It Forward—helping us create a school culture where every student can thrive.
Heads of Year are here to assist by following up with repeat offenders, communicating with families when needed, and reinforcing expectations during year-level assemblies and daily interactions. If there are barriers to accessing the correct uniform, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s Head of Year—they are here to help and have a range of support options available.
Let’s continue Thinking Big together—working in partnership to uphold high standards, support student success, and ensure all learners can flourish.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
