Spanish study tour

During the recent school break, a group of eleven students from Aberfoyle Park High School and seven from other schools with teachers Ms Rangel and Ms Puyo set off on a three week-long trip to Spain. It was an experience like no other, and well worth it.

First, we started in the city of Salamanca, a quintessential Spanish Renaissance city packed with gorgeous architecture and history. After lessons in the morning, we would do various activities like learning how to cook paella and dance salsa. One of the highlights of the trip was exploring the cathedral of Salamanca where we were told about Salamanca’s history.

The students also organised their own activities to explore Salamanca and make new friends. After Salamanca we travelled to Granada, a vastly different city but no less enjoyable. Rather than a city of Spanish renaissance Granada is deeply linked to Arab culture. The excursions we partook in showcased the Arabic influence through Tetería, tours of the city, and the Alhambra.

In Granada we truly experienced independence and what life could possibly be like to live oversees with friends. During this trip, we were given free time just to independently explore the cities and do activities we wanted to do. One such example of this was going out for dinner as a group of students. This free time really allowed us all to bond and have fun as a group.

By the end of the trip, we can all say that our Spanish skills have greatly evolved, we experienced what it was like to be independent, and we found ourselves to be much more confident in all aspects. The teachers also offered us a great amount of support for every situation, and we all thank them deeply.

The Spanish Study tour trip was a monumental experience that we will remember for a very long time. We all hope to go back to go back to Spain again.
