Using Mindfulness during Stressful Times

In our busy lives, it's easy to get caught up in stress, distractions, and constant multitasking. Mindfulness offers a way to slow down and reconnect with the present moment. It’s the practice of paying full attention to what you're doing, thinking, and feeling—without judgment.

Research shows that mindfulness can reduce stress, improve focus, and boost emotional well-being. It helps students and teachers alike feel more grounded and better equipped to handle challenges.

Adding mindfulness to your daily routine doesn’t require extra time—just intention. Start small, and see how it helps you feel more calm, focused and connected.

Try adding these simple mindful practices to your daily routine:

  • Mindful Breathing: Take one minute each day to focus on your breath. Inhale slowly through your nose, exhale through your mouth, and gently bring your attention back if your mind wanders.
  • Mindful Walking: Next time you have to walk anywhere, take time to notice the sensation of your feet touching the ground, the rhythm of your steps, and the sounds around you. Even a short walk can become a calming experience.

Take a moment to slow down and notice the world around you and watch as you feel calmer and connected throughout the day.

Students are currently in a very busy time of the school year. With exams around the corner, many students are feeling the ramping up of pressure and stress.

If a discussion with the JMSS Wellbeing staff on managing these pressures, including using mindfulness as a tool, please feel free to contact George or Angelique at:
