School Sports Victoria Swimming Championships
This year we had 4 of our swimmers qualify to compete in the State Championships.
Ruby Moore competed in two individual events, placing in both of them. She came third in the 100m freestyle and second in the Individual Medley. Ruby is such an athlete, she makes each stroke look effortless.
Finally, our Year 12 swimmers – Maya Watson, Maggie Spriggs and Sienna Beddoe – teamed up with Ruby to finish their swim team journey in both the 4x50 medley and the 4x50 Freestyle relays. The three year 12 swimmers have been part of the school team since they started in Year 7 and have competed in State for the past 3 years. This year, they were able to win their first ever State medal in the freestyle relay finishing comfortably in 3rd place!!
Congratulations to all 4 girls.
To the Year 12 (senior) swimmers, we will miss you at our swimming carnivals, dominating the pool and competing in every event!! You are always welcome back to help at our carnival or maybe even come back and coach the swim team! Thank you for everything you have contributed to our program.
NILLUMBIK / BANYULE DIVISION ATHLETICS
On Thursday 8th May, 80 students travelled to Meadowglen International Athletics Track to compete in the Division Athletics Championships.
This would be one of our biggest, strongest and fastest teams and all students went our and represented the College with Respect, Responsibility and Excellence. We were so proud of the efforts, whether it was stepping up and filling in for an injured team mate, competing in multiple events and grinding it out or just doing their best in any event they qualified for, it was fantastic to see all of our students running, throwing jumping and supporting each other.
In the end, the results spoke for themselves, and we have over 30 athletes qualifying for the Regional Championships in individual events (majority of those athletes in multiple events) and 5 relay teams. The regional Championships will be held back at Meadowglen on September 10th. (End of Term 3).
We’ve had a great start to the term with a few teams already out competing in Regional Finals including our girls Year 8 Softball Team and our boys/mixed Year 8 Tennis Team.
Last Thursday also saw the first student that I know of, Angus Baillie (Year 9 ), compete in the Yarra Valley Schools Shooting Championships. This event was open to any students that have a junior license and was held in Yering, Victoria at the Melbourne Gun Club.
Over 100 students competed, from 16 Schools. The competition consisted of three disciplines, down the line, skeet and sports, with a single shot at 10 single targets on each. While Angus hadn’t competed in skeet or down the line before, it was a great experience. He shot well and plans on doing more schools competitions throughout the year.
