Principal Report

Sam Luck

Dear Diamond Valley College,

As we move through Term 2, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the collective energy and commitment that continues to shape our college. From the dedication of our staff and the enthusiasm of our students, to the support of our families, it’s this shared effort that helps build a strong, connected school community.

This term has already seen a vibrant calendar of extracurricular programs, excursions, and student led initiatives.  These experiences do more than enrich learning, they foster leadership, inclusion and pride in our college.  We know that when students feel a strong sense of belonging, they thrive and that remains central to everything we do.

Behind the scenes, we are preparing to roll out School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) in 2025.  This model will provide a whole-school framework for building positive behaviour, enhancing student engagement, and creating a consistent and supportive learning environment.  Our staff have been actively engaged in early planning and training, and I look forward to sharing more about this initiative with families over the course of the year.

We continue to prioritise both learning and wellbeing, with ongoing improvements to our curriculum and programs in Years 7–10, as well as a full review of our assessment and reporting practices.  These actions reflect our deep commitment to supporting every student’s growth and achievement.

On a personal note, my start to the term has been somewhat interrupted due to illness and my involvement in external school reviews and professional learning. I want to extend my sincere thanks to our Assistant Principals and broader leadership team for maintaining our momentum and direction during my absence.  The professional development I attended focused on neuroscience and the science of learning — a growing area of emphasis for the Department of Education through the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0 (VTLM). If you’re curious to learn more, I encourage you to explore the information available on the Department’s website

You may also be aware that we are in the final stages of refreshing our school vision and values. I’ll be sending a short survey to families next week via Compass, and I warmly invite you to contribute your voice. In addition, I’ll be hosting an open workshop to discuss our collective aspirations for the college and explore community feedback in more depth.

As always, your partnership and input are vital to the success of our students and our school. Please don’t hesitate to make contact if you have questions or ideas to share.  Together, we’re building a college that our community can be proud of.

Stay warm!

Sam Luck
