Secondary School News

John Wollaston Veterans | Year 12

This week, our Secondary students engaged in a range of enriching experiences designed to strengthen both their leadership and wellbeing.

Several of our 2025 Prefects attended the WAASA Year 12 Student Leaders’ Reunion, with The Most Reverend Kay Goldsworthy AO DD, Archbishop of Perth. The afternoon provided our student leaders with the opportunity to list to stories of leadership in Anglican Schools in WA. JWACS Student Leaders were able to connect with peers from across the ASA network, gaining perspectives on leadership to guide them.

Continuing to provide opportunities for our students to develop strategies to support their wellbeing our Secondary students actively participated in a Wellbeing lesson this week.

Our Years 7-9 students attended a presentation titled Vaping: Clearing the Air – The Path to Clean Air and Healthy Lungs. This informative session debunked common myths about vaping and e-cigarettes. Up-to-date information was shared, along with the impact vaping has on a person’s physical and mental health. The presenter also shared proactive strategies with the students.

Our Year 10 students continued their Growing Mentally Tough Teens program, Students created personal vision boards that brought together the key tools and strategies they have explored so far – the GROW model, Hope and Growth mindset statements and heroes.

The Year 11s and 12s completed online lessons to support their financial wellbeing as part of Anglicare’s Standing Together E-Learning Modules. Students completed modules on Credit Cards, Buy Now Pay Later and Good Financial Habits.

These diverse opportunities support our commitment to equipping students with the tools to make positive, healthy choices in all aspects of their lives.

Year 9 Encounter

In Week 4, our Year 9 students embarked on an exciting three-day Encounter to Potters Gorge in Collie. Set against the scenic backdrop of bushland and lake views, the Encounter was designed to strengthen teamwork, communication, and resilience. Throughout the trip, students took part in a variety of collaborative activities, including abseiling, rafting and stand-up paddle boarding. Challenges pushed students to step outside their comfort zones, rely on one another, and support their peers to succeed.

The Encounter encouraged students to work together as a small community. By coordinating their efforts and overcoming physical and mental challenges, they developed important life skills such as cooperation, leadership, and trust. The Encounter was a memorable experience that brought the Year 9 cohort together.

Inter-House Cross Country Carnival

Well done to our Years 7 to 12 Secondary students, for putting in a fabulous effort at this week's Inter-House Cross Country Carnival held at Champion Lakes. It was wonderful to see students cheering and supporting their peers whilst earning valuable points for their respective House.

Thank you to Mrs Brown and our Secondary staff for coordinating the event.
