Innovation Sprint

During Week 2 of this term, whilst half the year level was on Camp, the others remained on site in our C rooms to take part in the Auburn High School Innovation Sprint, now in its second year!

Designed to target our Auburn Learner Qualities of Citizenship, Communication, Creativity and Collaboration, the program saw students work together in small groups to develop innovative and entrepreneurial solutions to a real-world problem that would help make progress to one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Over 2 days, with the support of their enthusiastic teachers, students brainstormed, planned, pitched and re planned their solutions, culminating in a final pitch of 5 minutes in which groups presented to a special panel of guests.

2025 saw a range of amazing and creative solutions presented by our passionate year 9’s:

  • A cactus shaped water purifier that aims at delivering fresh drinking water to remote parts of North Africa.
  • Flexible schooling programs for homeless youth.
  • A recycling initiative designed to get recycled paper into schools.
  • Car filters to improve air quality in the city of Melbourne.

A special shout out to our winning groups:

  • Keyte, Mathis, Elijah and Matt from ‘Climate Energy’, a company that produces greenhouses for farming made from solar panels.
  • Sam P, Elias, Rushil and Andrew who developed ‘Better Foods’, a nonprofit Food Truck designed to train at-risk and homeless Melbournians and provide them with employment.

We are looking forward to seeing what our 2025 year 9’s develops and design next year!
