Market Day
Year 9 and 10 Commerce had a spectacular pilot Market Day on last Wednesday 23 October 2024. ALL students worked diligently with great teamwork, collaboration and efficiency to deliver what was a first at Glen Innes High School. Both Year 9 and 10 Commerce were required to work on a three (3) part assessment task on Running a Business. Students learnt on how to develop a business plan, a marketing plan with the marketing mix (product, price place, and promotion), monitor their expenses by learning basic accounting cash flow statements, and how to make a ‘profit’. As a result, the final takings collected on the Market Day during lunchtime amounted to an extraordinary $2616.00, with $1400.00 (approx.) profit. Year 9 Commerce have made their significant donations of their profits as donations to Dolly’s Dream, and year 10 have made donations to Beyond Blue and Make a Wish to meet their social business goals:
Dolly’s Dream - $594.07 https://www.dollysdream.org.au/
Make a Wish - $416.00 https://www.makeawish.org.au/
Beyond Blue - $390.00 https://www.beyondblue.org.au/
We would like to especially thank Mr Norm Cowan, Head Teacher of HSIE Department for his support in allowing Year 9 and 10 Commerce undertake the Business school project. He was extremely kind with his time to organise all the required foodstuffs online. In addition, the Hospitality Department support staff, Mrs Trish Doust, Mrs Suzy Woods, Mrs Naomi Muggleton, and Mrs Anouk Gillet who were exceptional, and that we could not be able to complete cooking our recipes without them in coordinating with their support in the GIHS kitchens. Additionally, a massive thank you to our office staff, Donna Forrester, Michelle Whitehouse, Barb Baker who issued the food vouchers and collected the money raised for our sales.
Please look at some of the wonderful highlight memories depicted in our pictures, showcasing the students cooking their recipes and final products sold at the stalls during Market Day in the quadrangle.
